Description
Beauty Editor and journalist Funmi Fetto hosts a mini-series of podcasts based on the theme of contemporary beauty through a female gaze. In this episode, Fumni meets Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, a New York based stylist, American Vogue contributor and Fashion Director of Garage Magazine. Gabriella reflects on how she became a stylist, the challenges of breaking into the fashion industry as a Black woman, and some of her proudest covers and shoots to date.
Together, they also unpack the prejudices of the industry, how they have gone about breaking the beauty codes and standards applied to Black women, and the importance of expanding the visual vocabulary of Blackness so that the rigid constructs of the industry can evolve.
