Description
Covers all of The Young Master’s Revenge by Meca TanakaWhat if you had scars on your butt. From being bitten by snapping turtles when you were little. That is the whole premise of this comedy from Meca Tanaka, and for such a quick, silly series, it really is delightful. The revenge that Leo, the boy with the turtle butt scars, wants to exact on his childhood friend and crush Tenma of course turns into true love. You’ve seen all these tropes before, but not quite with this amount of disregard and subtle subversion. Shojo & Tell host Ashley and librarian and manga reviewer Anna discuss their favorite scenes (girls kabedon'ing boys!!), how this slots into the current crop of shojo manga with male leads, and have a very silly shipping corner. A short and sweet episode for a short and sweet series!Click here for a transcription of this episodeREFERENCESThe Young Master’s Revenge is available in English from Viz Media“I Like Turtles” MemeOne of the most epic mashups of all time that samples the “I like turtles” memeIf you like Maid-Sama, you’ll probably like The Young Master’s RevengeWhat the heck is a kabedon?Other shojo manga with male leads: My Love Story!!, Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty, *Behinds the Scenes!!, [Otomen*]9The one thing in Shonen Jump with a female lead: The Promised NeverlandOutro song: “Smile Its Me!” by DanosongsCONTACT USAnna on Twitter: @tangognat Anna’s manga reviews on Manga BookshelfShojo & Tell on Twitter, Tumblr, and InstagramAshley on Twitter: @AshMcD00

Revolutionary Girl Utena (with Rose Bridges): Ashley and Rose discuss how divergent the manga and anime of “Revolutionary Girl Utena” are, debate whether the manga is still a deconstruction of the shoujo genre, figure out which Disney prince Utena is, and ponder whether “Kill la Kill” is an homage to “Utena.” Somehow, even though Ashley’s middle name is Rose and she was talking to someone named Rose, jokes about being the Rose Bride don’t happen.
