Description

The homily was delivered on Sunday, April 19, 2020, at All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Rev. Dr. Marlin Lavanhar, Senior Minister. DESCRIPTION Many people around the world have taken to wearing masks. Masks are being worn in the hopes that they will keep us safe from the coronavirus. However, people also wear masks for other reasons. Join me to explore the use of various kinds of masks with the idea that on the other side of this pandemic, perhaps, we can also take off some of the other masks we tend to wear in public. There is something about this current crisis that reminds us of our vulnerability and the preciousness of life and relationships. A mask today might allow us to be in each other’s presence, whereas another mask we wear might serve to hide parts of us from one another. Let’s be thoughtful about the masks we wear and allow them to serve us. We can also be courageous in taking off our masks at the right time and in the right circumstances. This Sunday also marks the 25th anniversary of the tragic Oklahoma City Bombing. Rev. Barbara Prose and our worship, music and communications teams have created a tribute to honor the anniversary in our services.
