Stafford Betty is the professor of religious studies at California State University, Bakersfield, and became intrigued by the emerging evidence of an afterlife coming from research into the near-death experience, deathbed visions, poltergeist phenomena, past-life memories of young children, and other kinds of paranormal evidence.

He has published twelve books and dozens of articles and essays on a wide variety of subjects. Five of these books are novels.

In these he brings together and analyzes the many different kinds of evidence that point to the actual reality of an afterlife, then ventures to suggest, based on research, what it is actually like. He is frequently praised for his clear, jargon-free, down-to-earth writing style that reaches past specialists to regular folk in search of life's meaning.
