Description

Jarius Makambi is an incredible educator in the Kibera Slum of Narobi, Kenya. For the past two years our classrooms have used Skype to interact and learn. Jarius's school is one of the poorest in the world. It is situated in one of the largest slums in the world, The Kibera Slum where about 1.5 million people live.  This episode is not an interview, but rather a profile of the amazing work Jarius is doing at the Kibera Slum with the school he founded, how our classes communicate and learn, and how we can help these vulnerable students.  I really want to bring attention to Jarius's work and The Cheery Education Centre. I hope this podcast inspires you to use Skype in your classroom and perhaps even send The Cheery Education Centre a donation as i did.  Jarius feeds, clothes, and educates his students. I can vouch for their amazing character and drive to succeed. This is an amazing school. How the families and children live here is simply astonishing.  I can also vouch the amazing work of this educator. He does so much with so little.  Mentioned in this podcast:  The website for The Cheery Education Centre: http://cheerycentre.org/donations Follow the Cheery Education Centre and Jarius on Twitter: @Cheeryeducentre Follow the Cheery Education Centre and Jarius on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/cheerycentre You can email Jarius and send him a donation at this email address: jairusmakambi@yahoo.com
