About this ebook
After escaping a dark curse, Maya Pendleton is given a second chance—not as the avenging angel she once was, but as a guardian spirit tasked with protecting humanity. Burdened by the sins of her past, she seizes the opportunity to help the innocent.
Meanwhile, Davis Shetland is a man on the run. Hoping for peace in the quiet town of Gideon’s Hollow, his new beginning quickly unravels when a lingering spirit refuses to release him—and finds a deadly partner in the shadows.
As demonic forces rise, the dead themselves are called back to walk the earth. Caught in the crossfire, Maya and Davis must confront the monsters outside... and the guilt and darkness they carry within.
A haunting tale of redemption and resilience, RESURRECTION is the third book in the Vengeful Spirits series by Michelle Godard-Richer.

Resurrection - Michelle Godard-Richer
Chapter One
Maya Pendleton’s spirit popped out of her body like a cork from a bottle of wine. The rage that had plagued her since the previous night disappeared, and her soul filled with light. As she floated into the sky, memories of her mother Susan’s calming voice and the silky texture of Millie’s fur flooded her with love.
Around her, the twenty-five other women she’d freed from the witch’s curse floated upwards with smiles on their faces and light in their eyes. Their abandoned bodies lay in the forest. For her mother’s peace of mind, Maya prayed someone would make the grisly discovery. After all that had happened, she felt confident her prayers would be answered.
Joy, happiness, love and peace flooded her as she entered the white light, the other women behind her.
Now we’re free.
For a moment the brightness of the light blinded her. Once her eyes adjusted, she glanced over her shoulder, but the other women were no longer there. She drifted alone through the pure white tunnel towards the unknown. Ahead of her she sensed a presence filled with immense power, reminiscent of the Dark God but his opposite in every way.
As Maya drew nearer, she came upon a female being who stood at least ten feet tall. She wore a white, one-shoulder dress that floated around her ankles, leaving her bare feet exposed. Long, golden, wavy hair fell to her knees, and on her head she wore a crown made of live branches with leaves and full blooms of white flowers Maya didn’t recognize.
Maya met her gaze. Are you Mother Earth?
A warm smile spread across the woman’s lips. I am. Call me Mother. It’s simpler, don’t you think? And you are Maya Pendleton.
Thank you for freeing me from the Dark God.
Maya hung her head. Although after murdering six men, I don’t know that I deserve to stand in your presence.
Under the witch’s curse you did kill six men. But you also freed the souls of twenty-five women and your own. In the process you forfeited immortality to choose light over darkness.
I did. My parents raised me to be a good person.
Tears filled Maya’s eyes. Since her father’s death, her mother had only her. Now her mother would have no one.
Mother wiped Maya’s tears away with the edge of her dress and caressed her cheek. I would offer you access to my eternal forest, but I don’t think you’re ready to let go of life on Earth.
Over the goddess’s shoulder, a forest brimming with light appeared. Tall trees soared impossibly high, home to squirrels eating nuts and birds perched in their branches and singing.
The tranquility and peace of nature beckoned Maya forward while her love for her old life tugged her in the opposite direction. Is my father in the forest?
He is. And he’ll be there waiting when you’re ready to join him. That doesn’t have to be now. You have a choice to make.
I can go back. But how? I died.
Instead of being bound to evil as an angel of death, you would serve me instead and be redeemed. You would vanquish demons from Earth, returning them whence they belong, as you did with Rand Roosevelt and the witch Suzanne. I would return your soul to your body, minus the scars left behind by the demon-possessed man who murdered you. Unlike the witch, I won’t bind you to me. You can decide to live a normal human life, but in doing so, you will lose your immortality.
So, would I be like a Catholic exorcist?
No, you would be more powerful. The last line of defense on Earth. A guardian angel rescuing humans from the evil preying upon them. You will face off against the strongest and most terrifying evil beings in existence. Some of them have the power to kill you. Religious rites, Wiccan spells—whichever you choose will serve you well. Your faith and beliefs will give you power.
But aren’t you Mother Earth? Doesn’t that mean the Wiccans were right about religion all along?
The goddess laughed, then her form flickered, alternating between religious deities, both male and female, from every faith.
Maya blinked, struggling to keep up, filled with more questions than ever before. The idea of one religion having it right didn’t make sense, but she’d never considered that one entity could encompass the beliefs of everyone on Earth.
The being in front of her settled into the shape of Mother Earth once again. I appear in many forms, depending on which will most comfort the soul entering my realm.
I see. Since I called to you in this form to be rescued, that is how you appeared to me. Can the Dark God do the same thing?
"He can take the form of Hades, Lucifer—whatever one fears most—but only after they’ve entered his kingdom below ground.
