Introduction

Throughout my life, I have believed I’m a woman with great ambition, and there is nothing that could possibly knock me to the ground―not incarceration, not homelessness, not dealing with addiction, not getting my kids removed from my care, not getting divorced while in custody, not being able to hear my children’s voices or see them for the past 4 years, not the domestic violence I endured. The list goes on and on. These obstacles have left many marks on my life, and some would say there is no hope for me. But since I have always wanted more for myself than the circumstances at hand and knowing who I am in God regardless of all that I have faced, I could not allow myself to limit my ability to grow and show through my actions just how high we can soar. I want to be an inspiration. I’m tired of saying, I’m an example of who you should not be. No! I’m more than fit and worthy to be a great role model, and the stigmas of society will not dictate who I am!

Regardless of where you have been, regardless of who you used to be, I know there is a person inside of you who you once strived to be. You can’t allow anyone to change the voice inside of you, of who you know you are. With this book, I want to encourage you to tap into that voice. That voice that you keep ignoring because everything else seems to be louder. Don’t give up!

Strive to be who you dream to be. Don’t let fear cripple you. Through this book, I want to overcome my own fears and hopefully motivate others to take a leap of faith and follow their dreams ―those they have put aside but which keep knocking and tugging on their hearts. Hey, this was your dream. Don’t let it die. Keep dreaming!

This book was one of my outlets for dealing with a lot of emotions. It helped me transform my anger, sadness, and resentment and see them in a new light. I have changed my perception of my own reality to turn it into a positive life experience. I channeled all my feelings into a creative form. Maybe some of you will relate to me or get to know me through my poems. Most of all, however, my wish is that you follow your dreams and don’t let any obstacles get in the way.

You matter. You are loved. I care. Follow your dreams. Fear is normal. If your dreams don’t scare you, then they are not big enough. Don’t let fear stop you. Conquer it!
