Adam's comics deal with weightier topics like seasonal affective disorder and struggles with self-esteem, while also touching on the silly and absurd—like his brief, but intense obsession with crystals. With a bright, positive outlook and a sense of humor, Super Chill tells a story that is both highly relatable and intensely personal.
It took me a while to warm up to the humor of these cartoons, but a couple body horror strips finally won me over. There were several other good chuckles to be found amongst his strips about being a young urban professional and his trips to Japan and his mother's house in Montana.
I'd certainly check out another book of his cartoons, but I'm going to pass on the text-heavy stuff of his I see at my library for now.

I adore Adam Ellis' web comics and follow him faithfully across many platforms.
As anticipated, I was amused immediately, on the dedication page actually "This book is dedicated to Missy Elliot" what's not to love?! Also, her music will be playing in the background for the duration of the book, the stage is set...I put my kindle down, flip it and reverse it.
I laughed at nearly every single panel which is hard to do these days but a lot of what he's about relates to the things I'm about. Whether it's being a plant qween or ardent lover and defender of three legged cat roommates, I'm about it. You don't have to belong to a certain generation to think this book is funny but if you're between the ages of 12 and 50, ever go on the internet or outside, have ever used an InstaSnapBook app.... then there's something here for you.
Thank big you to NetGalley and a huge one for the publisher for providing me an advanced reading copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Super Chill: A Year of Living Anxiously by Adam Ellis is a quirky cartoon collection that perfectly captures the essence of living with an anxiety disorder. I related to so many of these cartoons. I appreciated that the main person in the cartoons was a caricature of the author himself. If these are expressions of his daily life, we'd get along great! I loved the ones breaking the fourth wall, with created and creator coming face to face. Almost a spiritual meeting with God, or the One. And his three-legged kitty! Too cute, and perfectly capturing cat logic. I ended up buying a copy for myself ::D Highly recommended!
**Random sidenote coincidence… same day I purchased my copy of Super Chill my sister was watching a YouTube video about a Twitter thread concerning a ghost story called Dear David. Imagine my surprise to recognise the name and Twitter handle!
***Many thanks to the Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
