Foreword
The book titled Hidden Secrets in Vishnu Sahasranama will be useful for the researchers and the devotees Sahasranama contains thousand names of the God, in fact thousand attributes of God. Sahasra in Sanskrit is thousand and Naama is name. English word name is derived from Sanskrit naama. Though many gods of Hindus such as Vishnu, Siva, Lalitha got Sahasranamas, Vishnu Sahasranama (VS) is the oldest of all Sahasranamas. It is part of 5000-year-old Mahabharata. Moreover, Adi Shankara has written a commentary on it. Following him many scholars have written commentaries on it. The internal evidence itself shows that this is the most ancient one. Vedic gods’ names are found init. They are not used anywhere else nowadays.
I looked at it from historic, scientific, devotional, psychological and linguistic angles. But millions of Hindus from Kanyakumari to Kashmir recite it only with religious angle. That is the one saved it for us from ancient Mahabharata. That is how I also recited it for decades. But every time I read it suddenly, I came across facts on Big Bang and Big Crunch, botanical and zoological terms, dreams and happiness, Historical dynasties. As soon as I finished it, I rush to the desk to take a pencil and scribble on the margin, history, botany, zoology, Jung and Freud etc. Sometime ago, I wrote my comments on such words. Now I have added more names and more points dividing them subject wise.
On the margin I wrote Kural when I found parallels in Tamil Veda Tirukkural. Then an idea flashed in my mind that I should record all the beautiful quotes from Aadi Shankara’s commentary. As a result, this book contains three parts:
* 75 Beautiful Quotes of Shankara
* Tamil Veda Tirukkural in Vishnu Sahasranama and
* Hidden Secrets in Vishnu Sahasranama
There may be some repetitions when I have dealt with the same name in different topics.
Aadi Shankara was an extraordinary genius who wrote scores of commentaries on Upanishads and hundreds of hymns. His quotes from the Upanishads, Puranas, and Mahabharata show that he was like a superfast computer. He was forced to write this commentary by God himself. He asked his disciple to get a book from the shelf with the intention of writing a commentary. The disciple brought Vishnu Sahasranama (VS). He has already written commentaries on important Upanishads. So, he thought VS is not that important. He asked the disciple to put the book back on the shelf. After a while he called another disciple to get a book from the shelf. To his surprise, that sishya/disciple also got the same VS. Then he started writing the commentary. We are lucky to have such a scholarly commentary. This gave inspiration to write more commentaries from various subsects of Hinduism. Mine is also a commentary, but from a secular angle.
Hindus are the only people who wish to have good dreams every day. So, they have prayer for sweet dreams including Chamaka of Yajur Veda and VS. Hindu views on dreams contradict the views of Westerners. I wanted to add more about colours and numbers in the VS. I will deal with them separately.
Enjoy reading the book; please send your comments.
Yours sincerely

Hidden Secrets in Vishnu Sahasranama!
More Secrets from Vishnu Sahasranama! – Part 1
Post No. 13,196, Date– – 1 MAY 2024
Sahasra means 1000; praising God with 1008 names is unique to Hinduism. It has been there for more than 2000 years; this we know from Tamil references to 1000 names in its literature. The very word 1000 occurs many times in the Rig Veda, the oldest book in the world. Because of Hindus’ discovery of ZERO and decimal system, we are able to launch space shuttles and satellites; without Hindu numerals no country in the world could have achieved anything in the field of science.
Tamil word for 1000, AAYIRAM, also came from Sanskrit SAHASRA, according to all linguists.
Vishnu Sahasranaama (V.S.) is the oldest available sahasranaama; later other sahasranaamams were composed.
In V.S. we find Botany, Big Bang Theory, Number Symbolism, History, Zoology, Invention of Flags, Stars, Mysterious Soma plant, Medicine, Magical cures, Sound Effect, Concept of Time, Metals, Linguistics (Metaphors, similes), colours, names of all Hindu Gods etc.
If one reads Adi Shankara’s commentary on V.S, one could discover more wonders.
Tamil Veda Tirukkural echoes many points found in VS.
Tamil Tirumanthiram (3000 hymns) followed it in many places.

BIG BANG THEORY
The big bang is how astronomers explain the way the universe began. It is the idea that the universe began as just a single point, then expanded and stretched to grow as large as it is right now—and it is still stretching!
How long did all of this take? Well, we now know that the universe is 13,800,000,000 years old—that’s 13.8 billion. That is a very long time.
When the universe began, it was just hot, tiny particles mixed with light and energy. It was nothing like what we see now. As everything expanded and took up more space, it cooled down.
The tiny particles grouped together. They formed atoms. Then those atoms grouped together. Over lots of time, atoms came together to form stars and galaxies.
The first stars created bigger atoms and groups of atoms. That led to more stars being born. At the same time, galaxies were crashing and grouping together. As new stars were being born and dying, then things like asteroids, comets, planets, and black holes formed!
The above piece of information is from NASA.

My comments
All the above words are found in VS or its ancient commentaries.
No encyclopaedia says WHY it happened. Only VS gives the answer.
1.ATMA YONI, and 2.SWAYAM JATO in VS.
Adi Shankara explains,
Aatmayonih – one who is the source of all; that is there is no material cause other than Himself for the universe.
Swayaam – jaatah- He is also the Instrumental cause. Shankara quotes Brahma Sutra 1-4-39. This Sutra (formula) establishes that Sri Hari Himself is the material and instrumental cause of the world.
Now let us forget Hari and look at it.
Hindus were the first to think about How the Universe began. It is in the Rig Veda, which is at least 4000 years old according to Prof. Wilson (He beats Max Muller in translation).
Rig Veda explains it beautifully in RV. 10-129, 10-121, 10-90 etc. There are thousands of articles on these hymns. We can’t find any such hymn in Sumerian or Egyptian or Mayan or Greek.
One may wonder whether the ancient seers knew the modern meaning of words like Time, Universe, Atom etc, we get the answers
