    INTRODUCTION

Our spiritual journey commenced with the daily recitation of Sri Lalitha Sahasranamam. With utmost humility, we delved into the meanings and interpretations provided by revered scholars. Armed with the modest knowledge we acquired, we began transcribing the explanations, akin to students earnestly preparing for exams.

We have also focused our attention on various sources and links from websites for a better understanding and compilation of information related to the Namas. Our spiritual quest has been guided by the profound insights of giants such as Sri S.V. Radhakrishna Sastri and the invaluable contributions of the Gnana Bhaskara Sangam, encapsulated in their meticulous analytical collections and compilations.

The contents and our expressions both in sense and spirit are not free from defects due to our limitedness in exploring the illimitably explorable subject. It is just an attempt to throw stones at the fruits of a tree and what is made available to us against our strikes, is noticeable inherently with its own limitedness.

Our descriptions and elaborations are subject to omission and commission and our earnest request is to forbear our limitedness and bless us with your constructive and corrective opinion, if any, in this connection.

Attempting to compose explanations to the Saptha Namas of Lalithamba compiled by Sri MAHAPERIYAVA of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam is akin to a child’s endeavour to articulate the beauty of its mother—a humble expression in awe of the divine and maternal essence.

There are various materials used in the Pooja Paddhati. Our aspiration is to offer a sincere prayer to Sri Matha. We humbly present this endeavour as a Nivedanam to Sri Matha, earnestly seeking Her acceptance, and beseech for Her abundant blessings to guide us on the path of spiritual life, ultimately reaching the sacred realm of Her Holy Feet.

Sri Bhagavat Pada Sankara who composed Soundaryalahari completes the last verse thus:

    प्रदीपज्वालाभिर्दिवसकरनीराजनविधिः

    सुधासूतेश्चन्द्रोपलजललवैरर्घ्यरचना ।

    स्वकीयैरम्भोभिः सलिलनिधिसौहित्यकरणं

    त्वदीयाभिर्वाग्भिस्तव जननि वाचां स्तुतिरियम् ॥ १००॥

"Pradeepa Jwalabhir Divasa Kara Neerajana Vidhi:

    Sudhasutheschandropala JalaiLavairagyarachana |

    Swakeeyairambhobhi: Salila Nidhi SowhithyakaraNam

    Twatheeyaapbhir Vagbisthava Janani Vacham Sthuthriyam"||

The Meaning of this sloka is:

What all we attempt and submit, is like a Neerajanam done by us by holding a small Lamp to the Universally glorious and Brilliant Sun. It is like the dews that are deposited and form droplets of water by the chills of the Winter Moon being collected drop by drop, used to give Arghya.

It is again like Performing Tharpana to Samudra Raja from out of the waters from the very Ocean (similar to the saying in Tamil, வெல்லப்பிள்ளையாருக்கு அதே வெல்லத்தைக் கொண்டு நிவேதனம்).

He indirectly says: All words are yours. You are in words. Everything is yours, Shridevi! Nothing is mine!

When a great acharya like Adi Shankaracharya humbly submits to Sri Matha, it reflects a profound sense of devotion and reverence. It serves as an example of humility and acknowledgment of the divine. In a similar spirit, we feel inspired to approach Sri Matha with reverence, humility, and devotion, recognizing the sacredness and divinity inherent in such practices.

    Our humble submission:

Ho! Sri Mathe! Bless us with all that you can favour us with in our tiny attempt of recording these writings in your praise. You are the Omniscient and Omnipresent that is ever Permanent and rest all are subject to extinction and time bound. Ever in our Devotion to Sri Maha Periyavaa who is again a spiritual guide in our Mission.

A word of an acknowledgement is the Owings on our part to thank

Smt. Haripriya Sambasivan, who has given a shape in its fullness by arranging and presenting the contents appropriately endowing her inherent skills in this area of bringing forth as a publication. We pray for her wellbeing and expect her continued support in this yeoman and divine mission. Most important aspect in making our writing Public, is only to propagate, to our limited ability and capacity, the need for the inherent and latent spirituality lying in everyone, to be brought to surface. Also, it is fully intended for the purpose of enlightening our own selves with the Universal Cosmic Entity.

The next set of lineage starts not as of father - son style but it falls outside this definition. Gaudapadar as shishya of Sukhar, Govinda Padar as the Sishya of Gaudapadar and Sri Sankarar as Sishya of Govinda Padar, and the group of Disciples of Sri Sankarar viz., Padmapaadar, Thodakar, Hasthamalakar and Vaarthikaarar. This lineage is a perpetual extension and continues as of now. I Salute and prostrate all these Guru Parampara bodily and mentally.
