The Occult And Right And Wrong - Terrence Simons
Preface
Beginning with insanity, and ending with universal acceptance, is the heart of the God. His heart is based on acceptance and teaching, not exclusion and injunction. Thelema is a Western esoteric and occult philosophy and new religious movement founded by Aleister Crowley in the early 1900s. Central to Thelema is the concept of following one's True Will, which is a unique purpose and calling that goes beyond ordinary desires; this philosophy is based on The Book of the Law, a text written by Crowley, which emphasizes personal freedom and the pursuit of one's true path. Thelema incorporates deities from ancient Egyptian religion and practices magick as a means of discovering and enacting one's True Will[1]. While some Thelemites worship these beings, many followers observe other belief systems like Wicca and Neopaganism. Post-Crowley developments have expanded Thelema's scope, introducing new ideas, practices, and interpretations. Aleister Crowley referred to Thelema as thelēma,
which is the Greek word for will
.
Why magick and not magic? The term magick
was specifically defined by Aleister Crowley, the founder of Thelema, and is used to distinguish it from conventional magic.
While magic
refers to the manipulation of the physical world through metaphysical means, magick
encompasses anything that aids in fulfilling one's True Will. Crowley intentionally chose the spelling magick
to emphasize its numerical significance and its association with hexagrams. It is worth noting that the use of the term magick
in Thelema goes beyond traditional ideas of magic and may involve the invocation of deities and the use of rituals and incantations.
In Thelema, hexagrams play a significant role as symbols representing planetary and elemental forces. The hexagram used in Thelema is known as the unicursal hexagram, which is a six-pointed star that can be drawn in one continuous line, unlike the conventional overlapping triangles. It is often depicted with interlaced lines and can be represented inside a circle. Giordano Bruno, a mathematician, used the unicursal hexagram to symbolize the figure of love.
In Thelema, this symbol is associated with the pursuit of one's True Will and is often depicted with a five-petalled flower in the center.
Giordano Bruno was an Italian philosopher, poet, and cosmological theorist who lived from 1548 to 1600. He is known for his cosmological theories, which included the idea that the stars were distant suns with their own planets. He also believed in cosmic pluralism, the idea that these planets could foster life. Bruno's teachings on pantheism and metempsychosis led to his trial for heresy by the Roman Inquisition, where he was found guilty and burned at the stake. Bruno's case is seen as a landmark in the history of free thought and emerging sciences. In addition to cosmology, Bruno also wrote on the art of memory and was influenced by Empedocles, Neoplatonism, and Hermeticism.

Beyond the Veil: Exploring the Lesser-Known Figures in the World of Occultism - A Journey with Crowley, Jack Parsons, and More
Introduction to occultism and its lesser-known figures Occultism, a realm shrouded in mystery and secrecy, has captivated the human imagination for centuries. While some may associate occultism with dark practices and sinister intentions, it is a vast and complex field that encompasses a wide range of beliefs and practices. In this article, I invite you to embark on a journey beyond the veil and explore the lesser-known figures in the world of occultism. The enigmatic life of Aleister Crowley One of the most enigmatic figures in the world of occultism is Aleister Crowley. Born in 1875, Crowley is often referred to as The Great Beast
and The Wickedest Man in the World.
His life was a labyrinth of esoteric knowledge, spiritual exploration, and controversial actions. Crowley's writings, such as The Book of the Law
and The Book of Thoth,
have had a profound impact on occultism, introducing concepts like Thelema and the practice of ceremonial magick. Crowley's influence extends beyond his writings. He founded the religious movement known as Thelema, which emphasizes the individual's will and the pursuit of spiritual enlightenment. His rituals and practices, such as the performance of the Gnostic Mass, continue to be performed by Thelemites around the world. Despite his controversial reputation, Crowley's contributions to occultism are undeniable, and his legacy remains a subject of fascination and study. Exploring the contributions of Jack Parsons to occultism While Aleister Crowley is a well-known figure in the world of occultism, Jack Parsons is a lesser-known but equally influential figure. Parsons, born in 1914, was an American rocket engineer and occultist. He played a crucial role in the development of solid-fuel rocket technology and was one of the co-founders of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). However, Parsons' contributions to occultism are equally significant. Parsons was a devoted follower of Aleister Crowley and actively participated in Crowley's Thelemic rituals. He established his own occult group called the Agape Lodge
in California, where he conducted rituals and practiced magick. Parsons believed in the transformative power of magick and sought to bridge the gap between science and the occult. Unfortunately, Parsons' life was cut short at the age of 37 in a tragic explosion. Despite his untimely death, his ideas and practices continue to inspire occultists and those interested in the intersection of science and spirituality. Lesser-known occultists and their significant contributions Beyond Crowley and Parsons, there are numerous lesser-known occultists who have made significant contributions to the world of occultism. One such figure is Dion Fortune, a British occultist and author. Fortune's writings on psychic development, occult philosophy, and esoteric Christianity have provided valuable insights into the practice of magick and spiritual growth. Another lesser-known occultist is Austin Osman Spare. Spare, an English artist and occultist, developed his own system of magick called Sigilization.
His unique approach involved creating and charging sigils, symbols that represent desires or intentions, to manifest one's desires. Spare's work on sigil magick continues to inspire modern practitioners. These are just a few examples of the many lesser-known occultists who have made significant contributions to the field. Exploring their ideas and practices can provide a deeper understanding of the diverse and multifaceted nature of occultism. Unearthing the mysteries of occultism: Rituals,
