    Glossary

    PREFACE

My account of the fictional medieval life of a Knight is the basis for my imaginative impression of historical events I’ve experienced, seen, read, or studied over my few years on this planet.

Years ago, I followed the path of my nation that encouraged kids to get a good education in order to get a good job. But one day I found myself overqualified for any decent-paying job. Was it my fault I earned a BA in English, an MS in community counseling, a PsyD in Clinical Psychology, and an EdS in e-Learning?

I’m still a Christian, a dreamer, a geek, an ordained minister, a postsecondary psychology professor, a US Air Force disabled veteran, and a retiree, wonderfully married, and senior citizen of America. I have always favored stories with a science-fiction or science-fact background, along with being attracted to adventure, sword and sorcery, and revelations from the Bible. I might be called a kind of a Renaissance person, overlaid with science rationale and grounded in theology.

The nonprofit company Scripture and Science Inc. will use this novella as a stepping stone towards bringing Holy Scripture and science under the same banner of God’s fulfillment for humankind’s better knowledge of the universe they struggle to define. The Order of Excalibur will serve as a starting point within my church—Disciples of Christ Fellowship—for personal and community maturity. Starting in early grade school, at an age of eight or nine, children, and later teens and adults, will become Knights through a gradual program of spiritual, psychological, and physical growth and development to foster courtesy and compassion. Completing this program will allow girls and women to use the title Dame with their given name, and boys and men Sir.

I close by expressing my undying devotion to the love of my life, my spouse and my sister in Christ, Lillian, for making my life livable.

    PROLOGUE

The rain had eased into a misty sprinkling on the fur of the rider’s coat after the former downpour. Ealdhelm Benedict von Hohensee, the current Duke of Cnobheresburg, strode confidently toward the pub. He often performed this silent inspection of nearby towns and villages—unawares by them—to gauge their loyalty to himself and their
