    Chapter I

    Determination

Black. Nothing but a naked child on the floor. She has horns and a tail. A vibration can be felt in the bones, a torn distorted deep voice praise Lamatta. For she is the darkness, which blankets us all

    The echo’s fade.

Now it is dark. The eyes open.

Burgh! The splitting of bone, when the tip of the spear pierces behind the middle-aged man in armored guard uniform. The sound of his gasping air and confusion. The blood dripping down, tapping on his metal boot. It is pulled back swiftly. His body jerks, forward and backwards. Then it hits the ground. The evening was quiet. The battle is miles off this small moonlit outpost. The armor pounded echoing in the scarce area, torches lit not far. Alerting the guard in the same yellow and black armor. He looks over and notices you. A smile runs across your face. A whistle in the air and before the guardsman takes an arrow to the side of the neck. With sharp realization, he could not speak. Dropping his weapon and holding his throat with both hands. Eyes wide before dropping on his knees, to the side. They have reached behind the makeshift outpost from local logging. She runs over from the other guard to the torch. The spear is raised being twisted slightly back and forth with a clear crystal that is hung on the tip where blade meets handle. The light shining red flashing back and forth in a pattern. A group of seven cloaked lightly armored men and women come swiftly down from upon the hill in perfect formation. They split between the opening of the gates on each side. The female, hooded with a bow across looked and whispered ok Lamatta, what do you see? Lamatta, kneeling low and parallel from her nods and slowly peaks out. Her emerald eye and brown skin exposed, holding the side of the wooden gate fingers latched. She sees the 2-story structure they must infiltrate. Few guards making rounds on the perimeter. She scans the area and sees one coming out of the door. The burly man with a large grizzly beard behind her, talking to the smaller one half his size I can’t wait to get my hands on em’, Trin, I bet you five coins I take down more guards than you, heh heh. Double it, Vernon. confidently O, overconfident eh deal!. Quiet Lamatta commands sternly in a preadolescent voice. Ooo, the queen demands her subjects a voice from the back sarcastically states. The other two laugh and giggle like schoolgirls. Listen kid I don’t care about your status. I ain’t dying on the count of some rookie baroness because you’re the boss’s favorite. Lamatta ignores the blatant disregard for her command. Focus on the mission. The hooded Bowman said still and strong her piercing blue eyes like walking into the ocean on a summer day. Everyone immediately becomes quiet. They look down briefly as if getting scolded by a parent. A guard can be seen dragging out a girl around the same age gagged and bounded, struggling. Another guard up top, bring her up here! he shouts, this may be her last day!  haughty laughing ensued. Me first! I am doing all of the work! as he drags the crying girl eventually by her feet to the tower across the grassy fields. Lamatta feels rage and grips her spear. She takes a deep breath. I need eyes up top. We need to syphon the numbers. The Intel was wrong.. I will infiltrate Myself, stand by for my signal. Vivi is gives her a look, Lamatta does not notice as she rushes in the shadows, dawned in black and purple with her family insignia on the breast plate. She darts off into the fort. Her short black hair catching the wind, quickly getting behind a box of supplies back turned. As she peaks around the boxes carefully, she sees the guards in pairs causally approaching her, she quickly slides back pressed against the boxes holding her breath. Still. The guards walk up to the boxes and stops. BANG! On the box was heard and could be clear from the top of her head to her lower back. She did not fault. She can hear a foot pressed against the lower boxes staked twice her height. A distressed energy can be felt. I am so bored! why’d we get stuck here guarding the pig pen? Relax, we get to have a little fun. The other and more laid-back guard decided to take a small square leather flask out. The sound of a pop of the cork and a hard swallow followed by a Augh! Here take a drink and come on you do not get promoted that way you only been here six months. You will probably die before that, if you won’t follow orders from the high priest. Not me I am going to collect my coin then start my own farm. He says jokingly, with a hint of seriousness..." The stern bloodthirsty recruit Denys the drink and walks parallel to the stacked supply boxes continuing his perimeter check

The other lazily following behind a few steps by the sound of the sticks and grass. As the sound becomes more distant the way is clear for now to the tower door. She gets as low as possible, knees bent, spear in right hand. The young baroness sizes the moment and quickly heads to the tower. She reaches the door, touches the hard, oblique, cold metal knob. Wrapping her fingers and thumb around the knob she turns it. It is not locked. They must be overconfident, she thinks. They will regret that.

The door opens slowly. cherry Brown, freshly built to try to hide the heinous crimes happening before her as the door swung open. Two men, holding the young woman down in their skinnies. one with helmet, one with out in the tower down I am the corridor at the end the room door open. Lamatta closes the door silently as she focuses past the girls muffled crying for help. You here no one’s coming girly we have nothing but time. Disgusted she surveys the room stairs leading up. Several Footsteps above. The smooth hardwood floor would be noisy with the metal on the back of her boots. She could draw attention, but the helpless child screamed as she attempted to resist was an exercise in futility. She is struck in the head twice. Stop moving girl! The little girl barley turns her heard eyes full of tears powerless tries to at least look away for a moment, dizzy. Lamatta and her lock eyes. For a split second in time, she can see all the hope in the world outing out her eyes. Hope in the eyes of the hopeless. The eyes spoke and she understood. Lamatta takes that first stomp of the boot, pushing off hard taking the next step harder. She sees the one holding her legs down Without a helmet. Stomp, stomp, stomp, stomp. Jingle of metal of the armor clapping synchronized as she charges through spear in both hands pointed first, in the upper right side of his forehead. The savage act, so rudely interrupted by dearest Lamatta. The helmeted should have been a guard but decided to become predator. Jumps back knocking down the shelf and jars, pinned scarred with his eyes searching for his sword. Lamatta yanks out the spear put the rapist head. Guys! Hel- and in a high pitch scream; gwahhhhh! A swipe of the spear from left to right at full force slicing through his thighs, lopping his member only to splat against the wall and plop on the floor. An upward vertical diagonal swipe left, and the screams turned to gargles as the horror and regret filled his eyes. One hand on his neck and one hand on where his private used to be. He falls over to the left of her as she returns with h her spear lowered chanting a quick prayer over the deceased. Hamjour! Berkel! I told you not to be too rough on the merchandise. They both hear the footsteps. She rushes down and uses a knife to slides it in-between the ropes, blade upward and saws free the captive. First her hands and then her mouth. Whimpering and frantically grabbing on to Lamatta for dear life, the poor girl is in shock. But there was no time. Her green eyes. meet with her brown and she said, will you fight, or will you lay back down?"

The girl shocked and the footsteps coming closer. The girl shaking and sniveling, nods in agreement. The guards heavy footed steps and belching was a tall tale of his abbreviations. A he made it down the last step you can see through the crack of the door ever so slightly. You can see the decorated

Helemet with long tassels of yellow and black with feathers on the tip. This one had a surcoat and heavier armor than the others, with a rapier to add to the elegance. The elegant knight on the outside gave of a brutish man on the inside. He walks down the corridor belching as he notices the girl. I told you no good donkey lovers, never damage the goods! he sees the girl laying there almost lifeless. I will have you thrown in the brig stumbling in through the corridor tripping until he landed on one knee and left hand extended holding him, up head down. As he steadies himself in the room, a little slurred he sees the girl closely ah, our most valuable asset he notices the blood soaking I the sheets where the bodies were kept under what did sh— . Lamatta lunges at him with a knife. He lifts at the last second with his right gauntlet blocking her knife slipping to the left as she lands on the gauntlet. He takes her and throws her back as she rolls on the ground several times be for sliding and hitting her back, knocking the wind out of her. Her clawing the floor trying to pointlessly grab air... As she looks up winded attempting to have a coherent thought. The heavy knight comes closer. You can feel him drawing closer with each step. The presence heavy with malice, so heavy dragging you down with each attempt to get up. As he towers over you, he raises his sword slowly. He notices and laughs a girl at that! he says heartly. As the blade is raises at the zenith, with his right hand. She starts to catch her breath and struggles to get up. He begins his final blow against the baroness. His body shifts to the left, as the strength of his whole body is put in his right arm. The blade starts to come straight down. As the shimmer goes from the top of the blade down. This is it! Forgive me father, I wasn’t strong enough!.

    The blade stopped halfway.
