About this ebook
In 'Thunder Snow,' Aleyn James, a young English fisherman, becomes the unlikely protagonist of the first English colony in New England. A devastating tidal surge obliterates his home and community, claiming the lives of his family. Determined to carry on his trade, Aleyn joins a two-ship expedition to the New World, where he spends thirteen months with 120 other adventurers. Together, they build a fort and the 30-ton pinnace 'Virginia' while navigating encounters with hostile natives. Aleyn's mission is clear: provide seafood for the struggling colony.
Amid the challenges, Aleyn finds solace and love in the arms of Acoona Stonefire, a mysterious Indian woman who claims to be the admiral's half-sister. She becomes his guide in native lore and assists him in meeting his food quota during harsh conditions. However, the admiral's decision to abandon the fort and return to England to claim his deceased brother's estate shatters Aleyn's dreams. Forced to sail with the convoy, he leaves Acoona behind.
In the sequel, 'Dry Rain,' Aleyn embarks on another trans-Atlantic journey, boarding the 'Virginia' once more, in a relentless pursuit of his lost love, Acoona. However, the tumultuous era's trials and battles make their reunion seem impossible. When Aleyn finally arrives at Acoona's Newfoundland home, he discovers an unexpected surprise – his son, Humphrey. 'Virginia' and her crew had participated in the sack of Port Royal and chose to winter in Newfoundland due to the season.
Aleyn's return to Jamestown aboard 'Virginia' in the spring marks the beginning of a new chapter, leaving behind his newfound family with the promise to return and marry Acoona. Despite facing military orders that thwart his plans, Aleyn perseveres and gains ownership of the pinnace. He sets sail once again, this time bound for Newfoundland to reunite with his family, now expanded to include his daughter, Tara. Along the way, they cross paths with notable historical figures such as Squanto, Samoset, and Captain Thomas Dermer.
Experience a captivating tale of love, resilience, and the indomitable spirit of an English fisherman in this historical epic.
