Introduction
Does the past lead us into the future? Or does prophecy lead the way to usher in the future? Unfortunately, all remaining unfulfilled prophecies in the Bible lie at the end of every man's life, not in our imaginations but in reality.
And what's the best way to present these prophecies? Can it be done with a novel or imaginative writing? Yes, it can. Writing a book is one-way prophecy can be processed and become a reality. Every man's fallen nature is to change himself and attempt to transform the world. But unfortunately, this transformation is to set aside every moral, every dignity, all cognizance, and every awareness of God. What remains? A headlong slide into the depths of debasement and depravity.
And so, I've written this novel that will reveal the secrets of Daniel's end-time prophecies. Understanding each character as a true-life individual and every circumstance will take us into its existence. Put yourself in the place of a saved individual or one that is not. Draw upon your storehouse of information, and process what you read with what is and who you are. Open every real and imaginative door, then take your first step into the last days.
Prologue
Let me introduce you to Clyde and his lovely wife for thirty years, Ruth. Their home is Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Their two sons, James and Phillip, sent them on vacation for their thirtieth wedding anniversary.
Their stay in Israel was about over when what was considered a minor tremor would shortly begin to reshape their lives and the lives of billions of others. This story will play itself out in the plains of Megiddo and the great city of Jerusalem.
Meet two men, David and Elijah, both strangers to Clyde and Ruth. A series of events brought the two men to Clyde's home with a strange message that would change the course of the family's lives and their friends. In a strange twist, the letter is not the mystery, but the carrier of the letter is.
A series of Bible studies at a local church opens the door to understanding the coming Antichrist and future events. The study reveals that the Antichrist will come from Iran. Now meet Mohamad Alsyd Almasih, a man moving up in Iran's government with visions of becoming Iran's next Ayatollah.
Enter into the underworld chambers of the abyss. See where the demons of hell have been under control until these last days. Vile creatures, waiting for their moment of release upon a fallen world. The prince of darkness has found one man. He will invest in him all his power and authority to overcome his last enemy, Israel.
Walk with archaeologists along the dried-out banks of the once great River Euphrates when they locate a small, sealed box dating back to King Nebuchadnezzar and Daniel's day. Its contents hold the final piece of the puzzle that will unlock the opening of the Great Tribulation.
Meet Samuel Rothman, who is to lead a team of scientists. They are entomologist George Lang, Kathy Dillard, and Geologist Albert Wilson, who unknowingly descend into the depths of one of the chambers of hell. The Lord told Daniel to close up and seal his book until the time of the end. The end of days has arrived, and what has remained secret for 2,600 years is now known. The people of Israel will soon understand what the abomination that makes desolate is and what the abomination of desolation stands where it ought not to be.
The reasoning of a teenager unravels one of the great mysteries of the Bible. Stand with us as we witness the rapture. Also made known will be the two Witnesses of God, as will be the 144,000.
Meet eight souls who neglected their eternity because they neglected the Word of God. As a result, these eight will enter the last seven years of Jacob's trouble. Yet for them and others, the door to the throne of God remains open. But their success in crossing that threshold will depend upon their decisions.
Those who go into the Tribulation are commanded not to worship the image of the beast and to reject the number of his name. To fail is not an option. You will live the terror that comes from below. You will listen in on the directive the Antichrist receives from Satan to begin his campaign of terror. For the following three-and a-half-years, evil carries the day as it tramples underfoot all who oppose it.
Nations of the Middle Eastern are caught up in a spiritual war, as are the Northern and Central African countries. The Antichrist will soon realize the powers that battle against him. The Lord will overturn his victories, for Lord God Almighty will have the last say in all matters, his glory realized, and the kingdom of Jesus Christ ushered in.
July 2023, Trip to Israel
A man's character is his fate.
Our personality and actions shape our lives and destiny. So, unless the Lord builds the house, we labor in vain.
Israel is a sun-warmed gem, a nation whose birth and life have been one long series of high expectations and dreadful misfortunes. Yet, in no period of Israeli history has there been such great reverence or love for this land as in this present age.
What picture does this timeworn land convey to an Arab, Jew, or Christian? For Arabs, they may visualize their nomadic ancestors herding their flocks of sheep and camels through the great dunes of shifting sands, driving them along the trails that pass by the many lost cities of once powerful but now forgotten empires. Or it may be the herculean struggle or titanic combat between the desert, water, and thirst.
For a Jew, it may be Abraham and his wife Sarah's forty-year journey from Ur or where he was to sacrifice his son, Isaac. It may be the land King David purchased for the house of the Lord atop Mt. Moriah.
For a Christian, it may be the city of Bethlehem, where the New Testament drama began with the birth of a child. Or it may be the many sites most signific and revered in the life of Jesus or where the last chapters of his life ended with his crucifixion and resurrection.
Born-again Christians may desire to visit the Sepulcher of Christ, where they can share their tears with those they love. For the curious, it may be the many archaeological digs or a fascination with the places warlike kings marched their armies across the plains.
As the two of us stand here upon the Mount of Olives, we can ascend in mind with the ascending Lord. For my husband, Clyde, and I, it has been a spiritual awakening, a journey back in time, a living journey through the pages of the Bible. Israel is not a large country, but its beauty and history can be overwhelming.
One can stroll through the neighborhoods of Jerusalem and visit its many marketplaces, quickly getting the feel of the many ethnic groups and the varying cultures of the locals. Christians pray for the peace of Jerusalem. But for thousands of years, the city has been anything but a city of peace. The locals will tell you, Jerusalem is a crazy place to live! This place is both the land of the best and the land of the worst.
Nevertheless, those who live and work here have a deep sense of its beauty, history, and underlying clash of cultures. In the evening, one can hear the echoing of Muslim prayers alongside the ringing bells of the Anglican, Catholic, and Lutheran churches.
Clyde and I are finishing our last few days here. Earlier in the trip, we had visited the sprawling hilltop fortress of Masada in southern Israel, where the fanatic believers of the Jewish faith made their last stand against the Roman Legions. The historian Josephus wrote of the Jewish heroes who had revolted against the Romans. The Roman Legions trapped nine hundred and sixty-seven men, women, and children at the top of the fortress of Masada. With all hope lost, they opted for mass suicide by jumping to their deaths from the desert cliffs rather than taken prisoners, humiliated, tortured, then murdered by the Roman forces.
On another of our adventures, we went to the area of the Dead Sea and the hills of Qumran, where the Dead Sea scrolls were discovered. Our tour guide reminded us that the Scrolls are an entire library containing over eight hundred volumes found in the Qumran area, dating back over two thousand years. These scrolls have a direct connection to the Bible. It assumed the people who left these scrolls were a Jewish sect called the Essenes.
He turned, then pointed to a deep valley where many scrolls were found, That, my friends, is called the Wadi Qumran. If you look at your brochure, you will find it on the northwest shore of the Dead Sea.
Standing with his parents, a young lad about fifteen asked the guide, What's a wadi?
Our guide stood near the edge of a thirty-foot drop, turned, then smiled at the boy. A wadi is the bed or valley of a ravine that is usually dry except in the rainy season. If anyone were unlucky enough to be standing in that valley when it flooded, it would be a life-changing experience for them. The flooding is usually sudden and with a terrific force behind it.
He then pointed to an area above. Other scrolls were found hidden in caves above the valley. The archaeologist searching the area also found on the plateau above the remains of an ancient Settlement.
Another tourist asked the guide, What historical value do these scrolls have for Jews and Christians today?
He explained, "The Qumran scrolls are the most numerous, but hundreds of other scroll fragments have been found. Some date back to the exile to Babylon in 606 BC. Even older fragments dated as far back as the first Temple period. Some scrolls concern Cyrus the Great, whose name appears in the books of Ezra, Isaiah, and Daniel. In the year BC 539, King Cyrus decreed that all Jews could return to their homeland to rebuild their Temple.
One can find all these names and places on the pages of the Bible. The scrolls are considered of great historical, religious, and linguistic significance because they predate some of the books of the Old Testament by centuries. For example, the Isaiah scroll, written in Hebrew, contains the entire text of Isaiah from beginning to end. Isaiah lived seven hundred years before Christ, but the prophet writes and describes certain events in the life of Christ as though he had already been born."
As for Clyde and me, it has been an incredible adventure through history, giving us a stronger foundation for setting our faith.
July 2023, Clyde and Ruth
The two of us have walked through Jerusalem's streets for hours, visiting the many marketplaces. Finally, the dreams of our hearts have been realized as we stand at the top of the Mount of Olives, sharing an equal fascination for the place. From this position, we can see the walled city as it bathes in the early morning light.
Few places have the quiet dignity of the Temple Mount, where the Dome of the Rock, also known as the Qubbat al-sakura shrine, stands. It's a magnificent structure whose Dome long ago was covered in gold. But the gold has been replaced with copper and aluminum, then covered with gold leaf. It stands on a flat elevated square known to the Jews as the Temple Mount, where the once magnificent structures of King Solomon and Herod the Great stood.
Our peacefulness repeats the Christian promise: Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
A remarkable reality is about to unfold, an account ending in a miraculous event and, for others, tragedy and death. It's a story that plays itself out in Jerusalem and on the great plains of Megiddo that stand near Mount Carmel, eighty-five miles northwest of Jerusalem. Megiddo is in the Book of Revelation. The LORD gathered the armies together into a place called in the Hebrew language Armageddon.
The immensity of the plain is astonishing; once called Esdraelon, the Greek modification of Jezreel. The players began acting out their parts centuries ago in the vast expanse of this natural Amphitheater. When he viewed this place, Napoleon commented, The armies of the world could maneuver their forces on these plains. Nowhere else is more suited for war. This would be the most natural battleground for opposing armies to meet.
Clyde and I both agree if any man knew what a good battlefield looks like, Napoleon would be that man.
Today Jews constitute about three-fourths of Israel's population and a fifth part Arabs. Most all the Palestinians who populate this area come from Sunni Muslim communities. In 1881, Jewish immigrants began to return to Palestine from around the world, and this migration continues to this day. On May 14, 1948, Israel was finally recognized as a sovereign nation. And with that declaration, it took the Arab countries, led by Egypt, twenty-four hours to launch their first military strike against the Jews.
Also known as the Holy Land, Israel is the cradle of Judaism and Christianity. It is also sacred to the Muslims and the people of the Baha'i faith. But unfortunately, for centuries, the land and people have been overwhelmed with wars and trampled underfoot by conquering armies, leaving a stain on the nation and those who live here.
Other than the person of Jesus, the most famous and most honored person is Abraham, a father both to the Jews and to the Arabs. Abraham, the son of Tara, was born in the city of Ur of the Chaldea two years after the death of Noah. The city of Ur was located in ancient Mesopotamia, which is now known as southern Iraq.
Abraham and Sarah were the parents of Isaac, the father of Jacob, who fathered twelve sons who fathered the twelve tribes of Israel. On the other hand, by way of Sarah's maidservant Hagar, Abraham was Ishmael's father, who fathered twelve sons who fathered the twelve tribes of Arabia. Many descendants of these twelve tribes of Arabia have adopted the Islamic faith. Therefore, one can understand why the descendants of these two brothers, born of the same father, have been at war for thousands of years.
Many have asked, Will this mysterious yet beautiful land ever realize peace?
Against the backdrop of the sunshine that brightens each day, the cheerful voices and smiling faces of the locals that gather for noon lunch, the answer to the above question is no! The war between the two religions is inevitable. Scripture gives us the answer: Jerusalem will never know peace until the Prince of Peace returns.
As Clyde and I stood at the top of the Temple Mount looking out toward Jerusalem, there came a sound of rolling thunder and a shaking of the earth beneath our feet, lasting for one minute, then stopping as quickly as it had started.
Standing by my side, Clyde said, It feels like a small earthquake.
I nodded my head yes. Hope no one was hurt.
Some tourists near where we stood ran for cover while others froze right where they
