Michael J. McDermott’s journey began in September 1949 at the Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, North Carolina. Born into a Marine Corps family, Michael’s early years were marked by frequent relocations from the close-knit community of Millington, TN, to the sunny streets of Anaheim, CA. This nomadic lifestyle continued into his adult years, taking him from California to Detroit, MI, Richland, WA, and finally settling in the quaint city of Perris, CA. In 1975, amidst the aisles of a K-Mart in Riverside, CA, fate introduced Michael to the love of his life. Their bond, now spanning 48 years, remains as strong as ever. Michael’s sense of duty led him to enlist in the US Marine Corps in 1967. While the Vietnam conflict brought its own set of challenges, the camaraderie and discipline of military life left an indelible mark on him. This calling saw him return to service in 1981 with the California National Guard and, later, during the Desert Storm conflict with the US Army. After dedicating years to his country, Michael retired from military service, carrying with him memories and experiences that would last a lifetime. Academically, Michael has always been a seeker of knowledge. After his obligation was completed with the Marine Corps, he pursued a law diploma from Barkley College, graduating as Valedictorian. His passion for technology led him to become a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and a Certified Netware Engineer, finally earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Technology. Not one to rest on his laurels, Michael achieved his most significant academic milestone after he retired from the workforce, earning his Master’s and Doctorate in Theology and a second Doctorate in Eschatology, all by the age of 71. Professionally, after his military service, Michael ventured into the world of entrepreneurship, establishing a computer consulting company. However, realizing that corporate life wasn’t his calling, he transitioned to a not-for-profit organization, dedicating over two decades to serving the disabled and elderly community. As an author, Michael is relatively new to the literary world but has already made his mark with two published works: “The Final Battle - A Journey through End Times” and “A Showdown in Dusty Hollow: Unmasking the Deceiver.” When he’s not writing or reminiscing about his varied experiences, Michael is a family man at heart. Summers sees him playing the perfect host, barbecuing for his clan. At the same time, winters are reserved for movie marathons on his couch, complete with coffee and popcorn. Through all his achievements and adventures, Michael remains a humble individual, always eager to share, learn, and grow.

DEDICATION
I am forever obliged to two remarkable persons who have profoundly lighted my journey through the holy tapestry of my life. First and foremost, I want to express my sincere thankfulness to Jesus Christ, who is both our Lord and Savior. The ideas for Divine Journey: Moments with the Savior
would never have germinated in the rich soil of my heart, much less grown into the fully developed literary work it is today without His heavenly inspiration and unshakable guidance. Every sentence, insight, and experience revealed inside these pages is a declaration of His unending grace and unending love.
Second, I want to express my sincere gratitude to my lovely wife, Faye. She has served as my constant source of inspiration, my firm anchor in life’s storm, and the inspiration for all of my victories along this fantastic road. In addition to pushing me toward my ambitions, Faye’s unwavering faith in me, unceasing encouragement, and unlimited love have also given this voyage its warmth and purpose. Your steadfast support, your hours of careful listening, your sage advice, and the haven you’ve created for me have all made this possible. I shall always be grateful to you, my sweetheart.
I recognize the heavenly and material pillars on which my life and labor are based by dedicating this book to both you, Faye, and Jesus Christ. This literary offering’s fundamental core is a result of how deeply our Savior’s profound impact and your love and support are entwined. The faith, love, and steadfast belief that have shaped me and my life should be a tribute to these pages. I am reminded of the times we spent together, Faye, and the heavenly power that directs our life when I spend these moments with the Savior. Thank you for being the foundation of my life and the source of my work’s inspiration.

CHAPTER 1
The Voice in the Wilderness
T he Jordan River continued to run steadily and gently, its waters glistening in the Judean sun. A large crowd had collected on its banks, speaking in a voice that was equal parts curious, doubtful, and hopeful. Every so often, whispers of Is he the one? The promised Messiah?
would reverberate through the audience as expectation filled the air.
John stood in the middle of the group, his wild appearance standing in stark contrast to the river’s calm surroundings. He appeared every bit the ancient prophet, dressed in camel’s hair and wearing a leather belt around his waist. But the fire and intensity in his eyes drew people to him.
Jesus proclaimed with conviction as he gave a lesson, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!
Many individuals approached, confessing their sins and requesting baptism in the swiftly flowing Jordan.
Two young men in the crowd, Andrew and John, exchanged glances. They had been lured by this prophet’s enthusiasm and message to become his followers. Today, though, the atmosphere had a distinct vibe.
The gathering became quiet as a man arrived from a distance as the day wore on. The moment John focused on the man, his aggressive demeanor temporarily softened. Their deep recognition of one another exposed a connection that had been present for a long time.
John spoke in a reverent whisper, It is Him,
to those nearby. It is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.
It was Jesus of Nazareth who appeared. There was a brief conversation as Jesus approached John, followed by a temporary display of humility as He asked for baptism. The scene was prepared for Jesus’ public ministry when John hesitated and said, I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?
But Jesus insisted.
The heavens opened as Jesus emerged from the water, and a voice proclaimed, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Whispers and gasps were heard throughout the gathering. Some people gasped with wonder, while others were perplexed. With his eyes wide with comprehension, Andrew turned to face John. We must adhere to Him, he mumbled.
The events of the day made a lasting impression on everyone there. A new chapter in the divine drama was about to begin, and the voice in the forest had set the scene.
There were many sharp differences in the Judean wilderness. Its rocky landscapes, sculpted by the ferocious sun and wind, have been the scene of innumerable tales of prophets and pilgrims. But today, a voice unheard before resonated in it.
John, also referred to as the Baptist, was a mysterious character. He stood out because of his camel hair clothing and locust and wild honey diet. Crowds came from Jerusalem, Judea, and the areas to the west of the Jordan, but it wasn’t just because of his appearance. He said, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.
Two young guys, Andrew and Philip, stood rapt in attention amidst the sea of faces. They had come a long way in search of spiritual truths, and John’s enthusiasm had greatly affected them.
There were murmurs heard throughout the crowd as John baptized the contrite in the flowing waters of the Jordan. A voice cries out in the desert, clearing the way for the Lord, according to several prophesies that were being uttered.
One day, a deep silence descended as the sun cast long shadows over the river. A man with a dominating yet compassionate presence fell from the horizon. Jesus of Nazareth was there.
John raised his eyes in awe and recognition when he beheld Jesus. He cried out, Behold, the Lamb of God,
with passion in his voice.
As Jesus approached John, the multitude stared in rapt attention. Jesus was baptized after a brief discussion and a brief period of humility. The heavens appeared to split open as He came forth, a dove flew down, and a voice echoed, This is my Son, whom I love; with Him, I am well pleased.
The incident forever changed all those present. It served as a call for Andrew and Philip. They were overcome by an overwhelming desire to follow Jesus and learn more about who He was.
Small groups gathered around campfires that evening to talk about the day’s events as the stars started to appear in the vast desert sky. There was a palpable sense of expectation. They were the direct participants in the development of a new chapter in God’s story with humanity.
For many, the Jordan River’s calm waves served as a place of reflection. Today, however, it was vibrant with a distinct energy. The air was filled with the murmuring of the crowd, the rustle of robes, and the distant cries of merchants.
A merchant from Jerusalem named Eliab had heard stories of a rogue prophet who preached and performed baptisms in the wilderness. He had come here out of curiosity, but as he was standing among the crowds, he suddenly felt a mysterious tug towards the water’s edge.
He approached a local elder and inquired, Who is this John?
in an effort to better understand the prophet.
Some say he’s Elijah, returned to prepare the way. Others think he’s the Messiah. But listen to his words, and decide for yourself,
the elder, a guy with deep-set eyes and a long gray beard, responded.
Solid and resonant, John’s voice broke through the noise. The one who follows me will be more powerful than I am; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. I baptize you with water for repentance.
A chill ran down Eliab’s spine. John’s comments carried a weight and a conviction that was unlike anything he had ever heard.
Many came forward throughout the day to receive baptism. Mary and Joseph of Nazareth, a young couple, were among them. They were filled with pride as they saw their son, Jesus, go up to John. When their eyes connected, a lot was said in silence.
John, who is typically so confident, was uncertain. He asked Jesus, "You come to me, and I need to be baptized by you.
Jesus reacted by saying, Let it be so now; it is proper for us to fulfill all righteousness.
The heavens appeared to widen as Jesus was baptized. This is my beloved Son, with whom I am incredibly pleased. A dove descended, and a voice resounded in the distance.
The audience was amazed. Whispers quickly became public. Eliab saw a shift in himself as he was still taking in the happenings of the day. It seemed as though a curtain had been pulled, unveiling a world filled with deeper secrets and realities.
Many people left with a newfound feeling of purpose as the sun started to set, putting a golden tone over the Jordan. The voice in the forest had spoken, but it had also stirred people’s souls.
Long shadows from the sun painted the Jordan Valley in shades of amber and gold. The river, which is often a calm blue ribbon, was today a hive of activity. Families had come from far-off towns, vendors had set up shop, and kids were laughing and playing along the banks.
A group of Jerusalemian intellectuals talked amongst the crowd, their robes denoting their high standing. One thought, the wise man stroking his beard, This prophet, John, speaks of repentance and the coming of a new kingdom.
Could he possibly be the one the scriptures spoke of?
Leah, a local mother, listened intently as John spoke while holding her young daughter’s hand. She was familiar with the birth story and the angelic prophecy delivered to Zechariah’s father in the temple. She hoped to see a miracle today, proof that God was actually reactivating His presence among His people.
Above the din, John’s passionate and intense speech could be heard. He challenged, urged, and begged the crowd to pay attention to his message, saying, Prepare the way of the Lord! Make his paths straight!
The group fell silent abruptly as a recognizable figure walked closer to the water’s edge. Jesus of Nazareth was there. He appeared to exude serenity, which attracted people to Him like a magnet. Even the academics put a stop to their conversations to stare at the Galilean man.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, John took a backseat and let Jesus command the stage. It was amazing to watch their conversation since it was so humble and respectful of each other. The air itself seemed to change when Jesus came out of the water. A loud and angelic voice resounded as the sky cracked open and said, This is my beloved Son.
Leah hugged her daughter while tears streamed over her face. She realized in her heart that she had been present for a holy occasion, a pivotal period in their people’s history.
The audience dispersed as night fell and the stars emerged in the great desert sky, each individual taking with them a tale, a memory, or a hope. The voice in the wilderness had started a flame, and it would soon illuminate the entire region.
The Jordan Valley was teeming with excitement. People from all walks of life were now lining the normally quiet riverbanks. Some were locals who were interested in the assembling crowd, while others had trekked for days on foot in response to stories of a prophet in the desert.
Eliab, a scribe from Jerusalem, was one of them. In the temple, he had overheard rumors of Zechariah’s son John and his call for repentance. Eliab had chosen to see for himself despite his skepticism and curiosity. His eyes darted between his writings and the unfolding events as he made notes on a scroll.
Galilean fishermen congregated nearby and were talking about the recent developments in the area. One complained, The Romans are becoming more and more oppressive.
Perhaps this prophet brings good tidings of liberation.
A Bethany family had established an impromptu camp. The mother, Miriam, cooked dinner as her kids played by the river. She shared accounts of struggles and aspirations in story exchanges with other ladies.
John started his preaching as the sun rose higher in the sky. His voice reverberated over the valley, raw and robust. He stated, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!
Everyone present paid close attention. While some nodded in agreement, others cast doubtful looks their way.
Eliab watched as people approached the baptismal font with a pen in hand. He observed that the crowd was diverse, consisting of Pharisees, soldiers, traders, and peasants. The fact that everyone was captivated by John’s message is evidence of its global appeal.
A murmur suddenly reverberated throughout the crowd. Jesus of Nazareth came closer. Eliab was aware of Him from stories of His teachings and cures. He kept watching because he could sense the importance of the situation.
John and Jesus spoke with one another, their remarks a mixture of humility and unwavering respect. The heavens opened as Jesus was baptized. A dove dropped, and a voice said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
The audience was in amazement. Some of the attendees bowed their heads in prayer while others sobbed aloud. Ever the observer, Eliab scrawled quickly in an effort to capture the essence of the situation.
Small fires were built as dusk fell, providing a cozy glow for the crowd. Food, tales, and reflections on the day’s events were all exchanged. The atmosphere was filled with songs of adoration.
Miriam sang a traditional lullaby while cuddling her youngest child. The Galilean fishermen talked about the significance of John’s message and Jesus’ arrival. One wondered, Could He be the Messiah?
Eliab decided to spend the night by the river because he felt a connection to the events. He watched the stars as he thought about the significant spiritual change he had seen.
Many had left by sunrise, but the effects of the day persisted. In addition to speaking of repentance and the impending kingdom, the voice in the wilderness also kindled a spark of hope, faith, and expectation in the hearts of everyone in attendance.
The Jordan Valley awoke as dawn’s first hues covered the sky. The sound of faraway conversation and the soft chirping of birds woke those who had opted to camp overnight. Everybody in the room was connected by the experiences from the day before, which remained in the air.
After spending the previous evening contemplating next to the river, Eliab was approached by a group of young researchers. They were eager to explore the significance of John’s message and Jesus’ baptism because they had recognized him from the Jerusalem temple.
The scholar Abner said, "Such a declaration from the sky is unique. It makes me think of ancient prophecies, she said.
However, Eliab said, What fascinates me is the dynamic between John and Jesus. There is a profound understanding, as well as a shared mission.
After spending the previous evening debating the happenings, the Galilean fisherman decided to join Jesus. They had a pull, a mysterious need to discover more about this man who had been hailed as God’s Beloved Son.
As she was gathering her luggage, Miriam talked about her feelings with the mother of Jericho. Perhaps this is the beginning. I want my children to grow up in a time of change and hope.
As the morning wore on, John carried on baptizing people. People waited in line, anxious to follow a road of virtue and to be purified. There was a powerful combination of excitement and reverence in the air.
After watching from afar
