Introduction
You've entered a parallel universe of joy and passion, of danger and intrigue, of loyalty and betrayal. A realm where it is always The Edge of Night.
Forsaking All Others
As the cathedral bells began to toll, the hushed whispers of the anticipating crowd gently brushed the air, and a soft breeze wafted through the open window of the church's bridal suite, carrying with it the scent of fresh roses and aged oak. The bride, her heart beating rhythmically with each echo of the bell, took one last look in the full-length mirror, adjusted her veil, touched up her makeup, and gazed at her reflection.
She stood tall, and her ivory gown draped beautifully over her body. The neckline was trimmed with delicate lace, and the bodice was decorated with intricate embroidery. Her soft raven hair cascaded in bouncy curls down her back, and her face glowed with anticipation.
She smelled of sweet jasmine and white roses, with a hint of fresh lemon and creamy vanilla.
It was Linda's wedding day—the one she had been dreaming of since she was a little girl. She was about to go and join the man she loved in holy matrimony. Her bridesmaids had already gone ahead to the church, giving her a few minutes to herself to gather her thoughts before it was time for her to walk down the aisle.
The door to the private room creaked open, and a light from the hallway illuminated the dressing room. A man stepped in, and she knew it was him immediately; her breath caught in her chest, and she felt a sudden warmth wash over her as their eyes locked.
His jet-black hair was combed neatly, and his face held a confident smirk. He had piercing blue eyes and broad shoulders that filled the room with strength and power. His tuxedo was crisp and fitted him perfectly, emphasizing his muscular build. He carried himself with a presence that elicited lust.
His cologne was a mix of musky and spiced notes, just enough to make her weak in the knees. And he was smiling at her with complete adoration.
While applying her lipstick, she smirked, You're not supposed to be in here.
Bad luck?
he replied, locking the door behind him.
She scoffed at the suggestion.
You know I'm not big on superstition,
she said. But my mother is.
He started walking toward her, and she could feel her heart pounding. As always, she felt an immense rush of electricity at the sight of him.
She looked into his eyes, and, after a few moments, she spoke, her voice barely above a whisper.
It's only bad luck if we're caught.
He said nothing, but she could feel him searching her eyes for something – a confirmation, perhaps, that this was really happening.
The two of them stood there in the middle of the room in a silent suspension of time. Then, almost as if it had been ordained, they fell into each other's arms and began to kiss.
Her breath hitched as his lips brushed her earlobe, sending shivers down her spine. You're mine,
he growled, his hands gripping her hips tighter, urging her closer to him. She moaned in
