Chapter 1
The Assassination
Late Evening Encounter
It was a quiet and serene evening in the bustling city of Lagos, Nigeria. The sun had set, casting a warm orange glow over the streets as people hurried home after a long day’s work. Among the crowd were two young sisters, Fatima and Angeles, aged 10 and 8 respectively. Little did they know that this evening would forever change their lives.
As they walked hand in hand, their laughter filled the air, oblivious to the darkness that lurked nearby. Their parents, Dr Rie and Fatmata Oya-Sesay, had always been their guiding light, their pillars of strength. Dr Rie, a former medical doctor in the United Kingdom, had given up his prestigious position to make a difference in the lives of the people of Lagos State, Nigeria.
The sisters had always admired their father’s selflessness and dedication to his patients. He had returned to Nigeria when his best friend, Bambay, became the governor of Lagos State. However, their friendship had soured over time as Dr Rie discovered Bambay’s involvement in embezzlement and the alarming increase in patient deaths under his administration.
On this fateful evening, as the sisters made their way home, they witnessed a horrifying scene that would forever be etched in their memories. In the dimly lit street, they saw their parents being ambushed by a group of masked assailants. The sound of gunshots pierced the air, and their parents fell to the ground, lifeless.
Fear and shock gripped the young girls as they stood frozen, unable to comprehend the magnitude of the tragedy that had just unfolded before their innocent eyes. The assassins quickly vanished into the night, leaving behind a trail of devastation and grief.
The sisters clung to each other as the night wore on, seeking solace in their shared pain. They knew they had to be strong, not just for themselves but also for their parents’ memory. Determined to seek justice and bring their parents’ killers to account, they vowed to take different paths.
Fatima, the elder sister, possessed a fiery spirit and an unwavering belief in the power of change. She decided to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a politician. Her goal was to clean up the corrupt system that had allowed such heinous crimes to occur.
With a heart full of determination, she embarked on a political journey, vowing to make a difference and restore integrity to the government. On the other hand, Angeles, the younger sister, harboured deep-seated anger and a thirst for vengeance.
Unable to bear the thought of her parents’ murderers roaming free, she took on the persona of a masked crusader. Under the cover of darkness, she sought out corrupt politicians and delivered her own brand of justice, striking fear into the hearts of those who had abused their power.
While Fatima and Angeles pursued their separate paths, Detective Dee was assigned to investigate the killings. Dee was a seasoned detective known for her sharp instincts and unwavering dedication to her job. She delved deep into the case, unravelling clues and following the trail left by the mysterious masked crusader.
As Dee pieced together the puzzle, she began to suspect that the masked crusader and the assassination of Fatima and Angeles’s parents were connected. The evidence pointed towards a web of corruption and deceit that extended far beyond what she had initially anticipated.
In the final showdown, Angeles’s relentless pursuit of justice led her to confront Bambay, the man responsible for her parents’ untimely demise. With a heart filled with rage and a determination to avenge her parents, Angeles faced Bambay in a chilling confrontation. In a dramatic turn of events, she delivered the final blow, ending Bambay’s reign of terror in the presence of his wife and daughters.
Meanwhile, Fatima’s political journey had taken her to great heights. Her unwavering determination and commitment to her cause resonated with the people of Lagos State. In a landslide victory, she was elected as the new governor, promising to clean up the system and bring about much-needed change.
As the pieces of the puzzle fell into place, Detective Dee finally uncovered the identity of the masked crusader. With a heavy heart, she revealed the truth to Fatima, who was both shocked and relieved to discover the person behind the mask.
The revelation brought closure to the investigation, but it also opened up a new chapter in their lives. The late evening encounter that had shattered their world had now become the catalyst for their transformation. Fatima, Angeles, and Dee had each found their purpose, their paths intertwined in a quest for justice and redemption.
Little did they know that their journey was far from over. As they embarked on the path to rebuilding their lives, they would face new challenges, forge new alliances, and discover the true meaning of resilience and strength. The legacy of Dr Rie and Fatmata Oya-Sesay would live on, forever etched in the hearts of those who fought for justice in the face of adversity.
The Motive Revealed
As the dust settled after the tragic event of their parents' assassination, Fatima and Angeles were left with a void that seemed impossible to fill. The shock and grief consumed them, but amidst the darkness, a glimmer of determination began to emerge. They were determined to uncover the motive behind their parents' murder and seek justice for their untimely deaths.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months as the sisters delved into their parents' lives, searching for any clues that could shed light on the motive behind the assassination. They discovered that their father, Dr Rie, had been on the verge of exposing his long-time friend, Bambay, for embezzling government funds during his tenure as the Governor of Lagos State and Nigeria.
Bambay, once considered a trusted ally, had succumbed to the allure of power and greed. He had used his position to siphon off funds meant for the development of the country, leaving its citizens impoverished and deprived of basic necessities. Dr Rie, driven by his unwavering commitment to justice, had been gathering evidence against Bambay, intending to expose his corrupt practices to the world.
The motive behind the assassination became clear - Bambay had silenced Dr Rie to protect his ill-gotten wealth and maintain his grip on power. The revelation sent shockwaves through Fatima and Angeles, fuelling their determination to bring their parents' killers to justice.
For Fatima, the path to justice took a political turn. She realised that the fight against corruption needed to be waged from within the system. Inspired by her parents' unwavering dedication to the welfare of the people, she embarked on a journey to become a politician. Fatima aimed to clean up the government, expose corruption, and ensure that those responsible for her parents' murder faced the consequences of their actions.
Angeles, on the other hand, took a different path. Consumed by anger and a thirst for vengeance, she transformed herself into a vigilante known as THE BLACK MASK. Cloaked in darkness, she became a symbol of justice, taking on the lives of corrupt politicians from the past to the present. Angeles vowed to make them pay for their crimes, ensuring that no one else would suffer the same fate as her parents.
As Fatima and Angeles pursued their respective paths, their journeys were fraught with challenges and obstacles. Fatima faced resistance from powerful individuals who sought to maintain the status quo and protect their own interests. She encountered threats, intimidation, and attempts to discredit her, but she remained resolute in her mission to bring about change.
Angeles, as The Black Mask, faced her own set of challenges. She operated in the shadows, constantly evading the authorities while targeting corrupt politicians. Her actions drew the attention of both the public and the corrupt elite, who saw her as a threat to their power. But Angeles was undeterred, driven by her unwavering belief in the power of justice.
The sisters' paths eventually converged as they found themselves on a collision course with Bambay. The final showdown between The Black Mask and the man responsible for their parents' murder became inevitable. It was a battle that would test their strength, resilience, and determination.
Seeking vengeance for the death of their parents, Angeles confronted Bambay, determined to make him pay for his crimes. The clash between the vigilante and the corrupt politician was a culmination of years of pain, anger, and a relentless pursuit of justice. It was a battle that would determine the fate of not only the sisters but also the future of Lagos State and Nigeria.
In the depths of their grief, Fatima and Angeles discovered a newfound strength within themselves. Their parents' legacy became their guiding light, propelling them forward in their quest for justice. The motive behind their parents' assassination had been revealed, and it fuelled their determination to bring about a society free from corruption and injustice.
Little did they know that their journey was just beginning. The bloodlines of justice ran deep within them, and their fight against corruption would have far-reaching consequences. The impact of Fatima's political career and Angeles' transformation as The Black Mask would shape the course of their lives and the destiny of their nation.
The power of justice, fuelled by the love for their parents and the desire for a better future, would drive them forward. It was a power that could not be extinguished, a force that would prevail against all odds. The motive behind their parents' murder had been revealed, and it was now time for Fatima and Angeles to embark on a journey that would change their lives forever.
Dr Rie’s Background
Dr Rie was a respected medical doctor in the United Kingdom. He had a thriving career and was highly recommended by his colleagues and patients. However, he had always had a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of his fellow Africans. He had emigrated from Sierra Leone to the United Kingdom to further his studies and use that knowledge gained to better the lives of his people in Sierra Leone. He had always felt a strong connection to his home country.
After many years of contemplating, Dr Rie made the difficult decision to leave his job and move to Lagos, Nigeria. He wanted to use his skills and knowledge to improve the healthcare system in the country, and he believed that he could do it with the help of his childhood friend, Bambay.
Bambay and Dr Rie had grown up together in London. They were best friends and had always dreamed of making a positive change in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Nigeria and other African countries. After completing their education in the United Kingdom, Bambay stayed in Nigeria and pursued a career in politics, while Dr Rie stayed in the United Kingdom to become a doctor.
Their paths had diverged, but their friendship had remained strong. When Bambay was elected as the governor of Lagos state, Dr Rie saw it as an opportunity to finally make a difference. He resigned from his position in the UK and moved to Lagos with his wife, Fatmata Oya-Sesay, and their two daughters, Fatima and Angeles.
Upon his arrival, Dr Rie was appalled by the state of the healthcare system in Nigeria. The hospitals were understaffed and lacked proper equipment, and the corruption and embezzlement within the government made it difficult to implement any changes.
But Dr Rie was determined to not let these challenges discourage him. He used his own savings to set up a small clinic in a low-income area, offering free medical services to those in need.
Through his hard work and dedication, Dr Rie’s clinic became well-known and respected in the community. He even managed to catch the attention of Bambay, who was impressed by his friend’s selfless action and appointed him as the Chief Medical Officer and C.E.O of
