      Chapter 1: The Mystery Man

      The bass pounded through the crowded club as Amelia swayed her hips to the infectious beat. She had come here tonight for one reason only - to let loose and have some fun with her best friend, Jess.

      Come on, shake that thing! Jess whooped, shimmying up against Amelia as the two dissolved into giggles.Amelia loved nights like these. Growing up in their sleepy rural village, nights out were few and far between. But when she and Jess made the trip to the nearest town, they always had a blast dancing the night away.

      As the next song kicked in, Amelia and Jess jumped up and down, reveling in the pulsing music. That's when she first caught sight of him, the mystery man in the corner. He was leaning against the wall, hat pulled low over his eyes, watching the gyrating crowd. Even from across the dimly-lit club, Amelia could feel the intensity of his gaze.

      Who's that? Amelia murmured to Jess, nodding in the stranger's direction.

      Not sure, but he hasn't taken his eyes off you all night, Jess said with a wink.

      Amelia felt her cheeks grow warm. She wasn't usually the type to attract male attention. Maybe it was the one cocktail she'd had, or the infectious energy on the dance floor, but she felt a newfound confidence blossoming within her.

      As the next song started up, even more lively than the last, Amelia began to move with more swagger in her step. She tossed her hair, shimmied her shoulders, and sent fleeting glances to the mystery man as she danced. She could feel his eyes on
