    Chapter 1

    Awakening

Evil can take many forms, deceiving once-good-hearted men. Swarming over the earth like a plague, brothers turn on brothers, and friends betray friends. Where any evil is successfully destroyed, something else always comes to take its place. One can only hope for better times, for they will arise soon, but for now, more pain must be inflicted upon many that rightfully deserve it. Don't worry, this time you can have some peace. It is not the good people of Vospheron…no. This time, it is the evildoers' turn to be slain like cattle; the mountains, streets, and rivers will run red with their blood, and their cries and pleas for mercy will not be answered. Do not feel sorry for them for their way of living and past sins, which have brought this glorious day upon themselves. Let us now see what awaits those who dare awaken the mighty Taguna.

Darkness covered the sky; life seemed to have left the earth. Supernatural elemental powers surged through the sky. Monsters clashed into flying vehicles that rained down from the sky on fire, making it appear as if a volcano had erupted. Bodeka ghosts poured out of many twirling portals, coming to retrieve the souls of the dead. Oh, so many had fallen that day…and still have. This battle raged on for a long time. Zepa was truly the bringer of the apocalypse, it seems. Maybe the leader of the ghosts was right. Scar isn't supposed to win. He can't. So many secrets he knows that he does not. But the leader of this dark dimension is too confident in his evil power, clouding his own mind with the idea that it will rule supreme, and that is where he is wrong. Scar groaned softly, barely able to open his eyes. He's rubbing the back of his head now, where he was hit from behind. He then rubbed his eyes, trying to adjust them to his surroundings in the barely lit area. He was still in the temple. Finally, his eyes were open, and he looked around the room while still on the ground. His eyes suddenly shifted, as if he had a sword to his throat, but were actually toward the creature—the one who had been awakened. It had someone by the throat. A petrifying low growl emerged from him that made the ground shake. His back was turned, showing off his majestic, vibrant wings.

Filthy human, it said. He heard whoever it was struggling for air. Then Scar remembered something; he balled up his hands into fists and stood up, walking straight toward the beast, not caring about the consequences. He had to see who betrayed him. Stepping closer and closer, he saw who he had by the throat in his massive hand—it was Max. The traitor! The last of the spies. How could Scar have been so blind, you say? There are times when we are all deceived and betrayed—sometimes more than we'd like. Scar's knuckles cracked; he had his fists so tight. This made the monster spin around fast. Eyes that glowed silver stared back at him, not saying a word.

Please! Scar! Max coughed loudly, reaching out an arm in desperation and kicking his legs in the air.

Your fate is your own, Max, and you are no friend of mine, said Scar, who turned his back. The creature then pulled him up to his face, opening his huge mouth wide, ready to devour the wretched man's head off. But instead, he threw him against a wall. He slammed against it hard, dislocating his shoulder. Scar turned to look at the beast, then at Max, then the monster again, confused.

It appears you two have unfinished business, said Taguna in a deep voice that'd make your body quiver a bit. Scar drew his sword as he walked toward his treacherous old friend.

Wait, Scar! Max pleaded, holding his shoulder like a wounded animal. He raised his sword high, ready to slice his throat, giving him a righteous demise for his actions. But Scar shook his head, lowering his sword and holstering his weapon back.

It saddens me that people like you are so quick to choose the wrong side. He then walked back over to the beast, standing a good distance away, of course.

The beast then looked at Scar, amazed. No need. Why end what will already happen once he steps back outside? Scar stated, pointing toward the exit of the temple. The monster then stomped over to Max, his eyes shining bright.

Wait! Nooooo! What happened next was gruesome. Scar turned his head in disgust. The creature then looked back up, his mouth covered in blood.

He would've killed more of your men or lived to die another day free from the fear of escaping death… This—he paused, raising his hands back to his feet, wiping his face, and standing with prestige—I could not allow. The roof shook again. There were probably more vehicles crashing down on the temple. The beast raised his head high to the ceiling and growled.

I had a friend…who I think is dead now. Scar lowered his head for a moment in sadness, then raised it again. Who wanted to awaken you, believing you'd help us fight our enemy.

The creature laughed loudly. Then your friend is a fool. Taguna stared deeply into Scar's eyes. Do you think I am some mere peasant, a slave for mankind to just use as you wish? To fight in your wars like a dog that does tricks for table scraps? A man who loses all senses for a woman he loves just for a fun fling? Yes, I know of your kinds of treachery against one another. I've been around a very long time. I am also no fool. I know of women's folly as well. The games all your genders play… It disgusts me. You even teach your children to be just like you! Filled with the same hatred that their family poured into a cup that has overflowed but in their brains becoming mindless zombies! Your friend does not know me… I despise all humans. Always plundering and taking what doesn't belong to you… All of your races have done evil. We cannot weigh one more than the other. Evil is evil. Scar looked up at the beast, not knowing what to say.

What about what I just did? I didn't kill him, said Scar.

One act of mercy doesn't make you a good man. Scar didn't say a word.

Then why haven't you killed me? asked Scar.

Why do you ask stupid questions? Are you eager to die? Scar examined the creature's body closer. He saw many deep cuts and other horrible things that were done to him.

I saw an act of deceit… I know too well how scornful that can be. Now I will rest again. Good luck with your war.

The beast then gave him a look. Scar then stated his name. Scar, said the beast. He then stomped away back to his wide stone slumbering area, where the catacomb on top of it was destroyed.

But wait. Can't you help first? By the sound of what I hear, it's not going so well.

The monster then turned to look at him. Then that is your problem, human. He turned around again, continuing to walk.

There is another greater power, an evil leader. His name is Montorious, said Scar, hoping this would help his case. He stopped in his tracks again, turning once more. Scar told him what he's done so far and what he was planning to do.

Taguna paid close attention to one particular thing he said. He did what? His wings sprouted out, and his claws extended, being black with sharp pointy tips. How dare he make such abominations of filth? They are not true monsters! The beast was so livid that he made the roof shake with his voice alone. He leaned down into Scar's face with his blood-stained mouth. Show me these…creations. Scar turned around, heading back the way he had come while the beast followed behind. Each step they took drew them closer; you could hear war cries commencing louder now outside the temple. The monster stepped past him, who was standing outside, overlooking from afar. Gazing in disbelief, did his eyes betray him? Men with powers fought alongside humans and mutated monsters. The monster roared a powerful roar, raising his arms high into the air and towering over Scar at a height of twelve feet. Infuriated, he spun back around, got on all fours, and ran back deep into the temple. Scar went after him, running past torches back to the huge room. The beast rose back up on its two feet. Then he began to shout in a different language, raising both his giant hands.

Suddenly the same oval-shaped things that Scar had noticed before began to move. They sprouted wings, shattering their corders, which bore many different sizes and colors—white, red, purple, teal—and some had stripes and other unique designs. "Rise, my brothers and sisters! We have
