    Introduction

    This is a story I should have written back in the heyday of Heavy Metal Magazine, but unfortunately I was too pre-occupied with matters of great import like maintaining my shaggy hair or catching a ride to The Roxy.

    Now that I’ve been writing instead of just thinking about writing, this short (tall?) tale is finally able to make its way to you at long last. Here’s to roads yet un-blazed.

    Jynna tried to keep her cool this time, but it happened again. The small crowd of patrons split apart to avoid the body of a man being hurled into the wall. This was a typical event at the Pisstop. It smelled like its name and nobody cared that another drunkard was shut down for the evening. The socializing returned as soon as the sack of flesh hit the floor. She’d had enough after he attempted to fondle her for the third time that night. Despite the hassle, she spent a fair amount of time at the place because the smacks were cheap and her clientele knew she was the one capable of acquiring items most difficult to come by.

    Jaa. Jynna said in disgust.

    Just Another Asshole was the nickname she gave to men who lacked the proper respect. It even applied, on rare occasions, to her own gender. She played no favorites, at least not anymore.

    Jynna wiped the sweat off her hands in a smooth motion down the sides of her black bodysuit, a long way down her six-foot-two and curvy frame. Another worthless night she thought. Stepping out into the cold wet evening, she hailed a transport and slid inside. The Jagersmaks had gone to her head just enough she dialed Max209, another Jaa, but at least he used to be hers. Intec advised against the call by poking its two-cents into the periphery of her intoxicated mind. Remember what happened last time? It beamed. She ended the call before it connected.

    Just take me home dammit. Even though she didn’t have to speak the command, she wanted to hear her own words. It was a small way to exert control over the direction of her life. Soon she stood in front of the air-lock platform of her apartment building. The first door opened in recognition just long enough for her to enter, then whooshed shut behind as the next
