About this ebook

A telepathic doctor joins forces with a rogue soldier on the run in this “edgy, sexy, and endlessly exciting” paranormal romantic thriller (New York Times–bestselling author Shannon McKenna).

Ghost Ops was a small unit of super-elite soldiers—a military secret kept under wraps by only two men. Betrayed by their commanding officer while on an antiterrorist mission, the team was massacred. Now only three survive—and find themselves framed and disgraced. But en route to the court martial, they escape . . . and disappear.

Beautiful, brilliant, and determined, Dr. Catherine Young is on a mission to find a man who has vanished into thin air. Walking into a high-tech hideaway bearing an essential message to Tom “Mac” McEnroe, Team Leader of the betrayed Ghost Ops force, is the most dangerous thing she has ever done. The soldier she encounters is frightening and suspicious, but her senses reveal the man underneath: tough, honorable, and so breathtakingly masculine Catherine feels weak in his presence . . .

But to surrender to Mac’s passionate desires would put her life at risk. Catherine has a gift that enables her to see into the heart of others—and looking into Mac’s is like staring into the very heart of danger itself.

This book is so full of crazy I don't know where to begin. I was WTF'ing through the whole thing. First I was all 0_0, then 0_o, then O_O.

And...I kind of can't wait to read the next one. clearly I need help.

    Quick Review:

I really wanted to like this book, because I am a huge fan of Lisa Marie Rice, but the romance was lackluster and suffered from instant love trope that did not work. An uninteresting and uninspiring bad guy who actually bored me with his scenes. Too much was spent on the world-building which ordinarily would have been ok but the romantic subplot really suffered and it was pretty lite compared to the main plot. The suspense had no real action or tension. Overall a huge disappointment. :(

This new series In My Opinion is a winner. Mat is the alpha hero with the scarred face and sole, brooding eyes and heart. Catherine is the specially gifted scientist that could be the perfect person to make a huge difference in Mat's life in so many ways.

The Ghost ops are divided and scattered. Some are hiding away in a mountain. Rice has created such an imaginative community with all the bells and whistles anyone could hope for, for these hideaways. The rest of the special Ghost Ops unit are either dead or betrayingly soaking up the sun on an island...or not.

The villian is a very twisted Lee, with plans for power and military perfection. He lives and continues his evil thoughts which include Dr. Catherine Young...once she is found, at the end of the book.

The supporting characters who will very probably have a book of their own in the future are also extemely hot and intelligent. Just the right amount of angst, passion and plot building. There was touch too much pensive thought on Catherine's part that goes no where and really isn't needed. Do I really care why her school friends all wore glasses? For that reason this isn't the five star that I wanted to give. A wonderful read for those who like contemporary military style suspense.

Delightfully wacky. It made me laugh enough that I don't even care about the things that are normally pet peeves of mine.

Lisa Marie Rice is a popular author of romance suspense and Heart of Danger is the first book in her new series featuring the men of Ghost Ops - a secret unit of elite American soldiers with no identity. In this first installment, when the Ghost Ops team is betrayed during a mission, only three men escape, believing their commander Colonel Lucius Ward, sold them out. Hidden in their high tech lair, the arrival in the middle of a snowstorm of Dr Catherine Young arouses Tom 'Mac' MacEnroe's suspicions. A scientific researcher working in the field of dementia, Catherine insists that the commander is her patient and desperately needs Mac's help. Though fearing a trap, Mac and his men will leave no man behind and with the help of Catherine's special talent, they mount a rescue that reveals a horrifying secret.Though there isn't anything particularly original about this new series, Rice balances the action with romance well. I found myself caught up in the suspense as it becomes clear there is something sinister happening at the lab for which Catherine worked and rescuing Lucius will not be easy, even for Mac's elite corps. The idea of the Haven provides another layer of interest to the story which pleasantly diffuses the focus on military operations. The technological advances sets this novel a generation or two into the future with some nifty gadgets available to the team. Interestingly Rice also chooses to develop a futuristic political climate with the villain motivated by an allegiance to China. I like that Rice has ground the series in something larger than itself.Mac is the bad ass, brooding, tough guy who dissolves with a simple touch from Catherine. Catherine is stunning, smart and psychically gifted to boot, all without being aware of her appeal. It is a little cheesy but the sexual tension is well developed and when the pair finally succumb to their attraction the sex is pretty hot.I did tire of the repetitive internal monologues of both Mac and Catherine though. Mac loses his train of thought every time Catherine looks his way, slipping into a self flagellating loop of lust and suspicion, while Catherine berates herself for thinking Mac could ever be interested in her, given she is such a freak.A fast, escapist story that blends sci-fi, paranormal, action and romance genres this is an enjoyable read.

Read for Review (Edelweiss)Overall Rating: 4.00Story Rating: 4.25Character Rating: 3.75First Thought when Finished: Heart of Danger was a great start to a new series that hit my romantic suspense with a twist sweet spot. What I Thought of the Story: Heart of Danger was an excellent beginning to a new series! I really enjoyed this world that Lisa Marie Rice created. It was an interesting mix of future with a feeling of realism. I liked how all the "outcasts" came together and created a place that was safe/thriving. The suspense was just the right amount of action and planning. The "guys" were a good combo of smarts/braun and that showed in the follow through of the story. What I Thought of the Characters: This is going to sound somewhat contradictory: I loved all the side characters but wasn't in love with the main couple (rating based on them). Since this is a romantic suspense, let me start with the main couple: Mac and Catherine. Individually, I loved both of them. Mac was smart, tough, loyal, and scarred. Catherine was smart, headstrong, and held her own. I just didn't "fall in love" along with them. That being said, I liked them together. I really found myself wanting to know more about all the side characters and can't wait for this series to continue!Final Thought: The Ghost Ops series by Lisa Marie Rice will end up on my auto-buy list because I really did enjoy this brand new world!
