The Ghostly Tales of Ohio's Haunted Cemeteries - Kate Byrne
Welcome to Ohio’s Haunted Cemeteries!
To be a ghost hunter, you have to be brave. You might have to enter a dark, spooky Victorian house or an old, abandoned mine shaft. If you’re seeking the supernatural, spending a whole night in a haunted hotel room or trying to dodge a phantom train as it barrels full steam ahead into a tunnel of terror might be necessary.
You might feel a chill surrounding you in an empty room, even if it’s the middle of summer and the air conditioning is turned off. You could even find yourself standing on a bridge at midnight in search of a misty, wailing ghost woman.
But none of these experiences come close to the ultimate challenge a thrill-seeking ghost hunter might face. For the most terrifying and bone-rattling encounter with ghosts, there’s one place you absolutely, one hundred percent, must be willing to go: a cemetery.
No matter where you go in the world, you can always find a haunted graveyard. After all, it just makes sense that ghosts would linger where their earthly bodies were placed in the ground. But if you happen to be in Ohio, you’ll be surrounded by a lot of haunted cemeteries; Ohio is a wonderful state with a lot of history—a lot of HAUNTED history!
Ohio is sometimes called the Mother of Presidents
because more of our country’s presidents come from Ohio than any other state. In fact, eight U.S. presidents called Ohio home (and seven were born here)! It also goes by the nickname The Birthplace of Aviation
because the Wright Brothers—the famous inventors of the airplane—had their workshop here. While these are some of the best-remembered Ohioans, there are so many more who lived and died in this great state and whose spirits, it seems, have chosen to remain.
Make no mistake, Ohio’s cemeteries are crawling with spirits, some friendly and some not so much. Ohio is home to a surprising variety of ghosts—from a talented former ballerina to several accused witches. But there may be other creatures lurking in Ohio’s haunted cemeteries. Would you believe a goblin is one of them? If you happen to see one, you won’t be the first!
If you think you’re brave enough to go on a ghost-hunting trip around the state of Ohio, the journey starts here. You will encounter spirts and happenings that you’d never notice in the light of day. You’ll discover that the ghosts roaming Ohio’s cemeteries left an impression on the Buckeye state that can never be forgotten.
The Curse of the Conus Mound
MARIETTA
Have you heard of the curse of the pharaohs? In 1922, when archaeologists uncovered King Tut’s tomb in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings, they learned of a local legend. According to the ancient tale, the tomb was protected by a curse. Anyone who disturbed the grave would suffer … or maybe even die.
The archaeologists weren’t locals. They had gone to Egypt from other countries to study history and look for treasures—and they found them! In King Tut’s tomb were artifacts made
