Project Cipher
While driving, Kenny says to Jake, Are you sure that we packed enough rope and anchors?
Jake replies by saying, for the third time, Yes, I packed enough.
And before you ask, yes, I also packed the hiking poles. You know, it is almost like you have never gone rock climbing and hiking before. Kenny pushes Jake on the shoulder and tells him to shut up. Jake turns to Kenny, and he asks if he has the map. You know the map; you swore last time we tried to go on this trip, you had it. You know that map.
In a snide voice and face, Kenny says yes
and shows Jack the map.
Jake asks Kenny, So what are the directions to get where we are going?
Kenny responds by saying Ok, so from Reno, we take 80 East, going past Wadsworth. At the split, we take the exit onto the 50/Lincoln Highway, and we follow it toward Hazen and Fallson.
Jake says, Isn't Fallon where that Naval base is?
And doesn't it seem weird to you that there is a naval base out here in the desert?
Kenny replies, No, I have never thought about it. You know, I do not think about that kind of stuff. I'm sure there is a conspiracy around it.
Kenny nodes his head and then continues telling Jake the directions so, after we pass Fallon, we drive a bit further and look for the signs for the Grimes Point archaeological area. We make that left, head up that road, and park where the signs say Hidden Cave. There is a parking lot there, perfect for us to set up before we head out.
As the two are following the directions, they pass the signs for the Naval Aviation Warfare Development Command building. Jake then asks Kenny, Dude again, really, you have never thought about why a Naval anything would be way out here in the desert?
I mean, really, dude, doesn't Naval anything make you think of the water? Kenny replies, No dude, I have never put any thought into it.
Not until right now. I mean, yeah, it seems a bit weird that the Navy would have a base this far out from the ocean, and maybe it would make a bit more sense if it was the Army or the Air Force. But really, dude, I just do not care as much as you do. But just to know, is this going to be a thing for you for the whole day? I mean, this is supposed to be relaxing and fun, not wondering what conspiracy is going on. I'm sure Elvis, Tupac, and Jimi Hendrix are not there jamming out, you know.
As the two continue to drive down the road, Kenny sees and mentions the sign for the Grimes Point archaeological area. The sign said one mile ahead. Jake says, Dude, you see, we are almost there, and then we can go have fun.
Kenny agrees, and then points to the sign to turn left. Jake makes the turn and then sees the sign for Hidden Cave. They follow the road until they come up to the Hidden Cave parking lot. They park their car and notice that there are no other cars in the lot. They both look at each other and say, Let's get this show on the road.
After they park, Jake opens the back of his Explorer and pulls their packs, poles, and shoes toward them. As they sit on the tailgate and change into their hiking boots,
