Taken By the Barbarian - Kelsy Madden
I.
IN A RUGGED AND UNTAMED land, where strength and desire intertwine, a barbarian named Ragnar roamed the vast plains. Standing tall and muscular, with a fierce gaze and a mane of wild hair, he was a force to be reckoned with. Ragnar was a man of few words but possessed a primal allure that drew women to him like moths to a flame.
In a nearby village, lived a woman named Astrid. She was, half-elven, and a radiant beauty with luscious curves that were as full as the day is long. Astrid had always been admired for her full figure, but in a society that celebrated slender frames, she often felt self-conscious. Yet, beneath her insecurities, she yearned for a love that would ignite her desires and accept her just as she was.
One fateful day, Ragnar's path crossed with Astrid's. The villagers spoke of the legendary barbarian and his prowess, which intrigued Astrid. As she caught a glimpse of him across the bustling market, their eyes met, and a spark ignited in her chest. She felt an inexplicable pull towards him, as if destiny had conspired to bring them together.
Ragnar, too, was captivated by Astrid's beauty and confidence. He saw past societal expectations and embraced her lush curves with an admiration that stirred a fire within him. He knew she was different, and he yearned to explore the depths of her passion.
Leaning in close to her, Ragnar whispered, smiling slightly, Your beauty enchants me. The fire in your eyes ignites a flame deep within. Let me show you the depths of passion we could explore together.
Astrid's heart skipped a beat, but she turned her gaze away, showing disinterest, and responded with a cool tone, Good Sir. I am not interested in what you offer. My heart is guarded, and I won’t be another notch upon your shield. It's best if you keep your distance.
Who did this man think he was? Was he so self important that he would accost a random woman in such a way? And what did he mean by love, anyway? They had only just met! Still, his voice resonated deeply into her soul. It was warm, reassuring, inviting, enticing.
Ragnar's smile never faded. It was clear to Astrid that he refused to let rejection deter him. It was as though he could sense the conflict within her. He reached out to gently grasp her hand, his voice unwavering. I see the fire that burns within you. I sense the longing in your eyes, even if you deny it. Will you not give this lonely man a chance?.
Astrid's resolve wavered as Ragnar's words pounded like a drum, but she fought against the tide of desire now threatening to consume her. What was it about him that made her feel like a stupid little girl? With a pained expression, she pulled her hand away, her voice trembling. Ragnar, I believe that is your name. This love you speak of is pain. If that is truly what you seek, I want nothing of it. I've sworn to protect my heart from such agony. I cannot allow myself to be vulnerable to you or anyone else. Besides, how can one speak of love so quickly? Perhaps it is something else entirely that you want from me.
Ragnar's gaze burned with determination as he stepped closer, his voice a soft plea. Whatever scars the past bring, I cannot change. I promise you, my intentions are true. Let me prove to you that love can heal, that it can bring joy instead of pain. Together, we can create something extraordinary.
Astrid's eyes filled with unshed tears, torn between the desire to succumb to Ragnar's advances and the fear of being hurt yet again. Why did she feel this way? She turned, her voice barely a whisper, "I can't, Ragnar. I can't let myself be taken upon the whims of another well-intentioned oaf. It's too risky, too dangerous."
Astrid's heart pounded within her chest as Ragnar's words and touch stirred a tempest of conflicting emotions within her. She couldn't deny the intense longing she felt for him, the magnetic pull that drew her towards him. But fear, like a venomous serpent, coiled around her heart, reminding her of the pain that love had brought her in the past.
As Ragnar's hand caressed her cheek, Astrid trembled, feeling the warmth of his touch seep into her very soul. But then, a wave of panic crashed over her, drowning out the flicker of hope that had ignited within her. She tore herself away from him, her eyes filled with tears, and without a word, she turned and ran.
Her feet pounded against the dirt as she sprinted, her mind swirling with doubts and questions. Why am I acting like a foolish girl? Why am I letting myself be swayed by these emotions? Love only brings heartache and despair. I've seen it, felt it. I can't allow myself to be vulnerable again, especially not with a muscle-bound buffoon
