Chapter One
Richard Alvey, the seasoned detective in charge at the Miami Police Department, slouched in his chair, clad in a modest, ill-fitting dark blue suit and a plain white shirt. His red tie, adorned with golden dots, had lost its significance in his memory, as he could not recall which birthday it was gifted for. As he let out a deep sigh, his gaze shifted downward to the bottom of his tie, a twinge of sadness creeping in as he pondered how his birthdays never seemed to bring him the things he truly desired. Despite his wife and children's well-intentioned efforts, they often ended up presenting him with items that didn't quite align with his wishes.
Each year, the birthday gifts brought by his family seemed to follow a predictable pattern: tools, socks, or ties. However, Richard had never been one for handy work, rendering the tools useless to him. He had accumulated an abundance of socks and ties, far more than he could ever wear in a lifetime, let alone an entire village. Reflecting on his family life, he couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment. It hadn't unfolded as he had envisioned, always yearning for a family
