    Impending Disaster

    Chapter 1

    ––––––––

Ian was humming a tune as he arrived at the small local airport. Today he would be doing what he liked best, flying his Cessna 150. Due to helping his mother in Canada get over a sickness, it had been three months since he had been up. Ian strolled into the office, greeted Phil behind the desk, then signed to say he would be taking Mark and Jane his friends up for a joy ride. Once done, he then went and performed a pre-flight inspection of his plane. He had completed and closed the engine cover when the couple arrived. Ian greets them. With Mark being bigger than Jane, he sat in the front, while Jane made herself comfortable in the seat behind them.

As they set off down the runway, Ian said. Right, here we go.

As the plane takes off and rises into the clear blue sky, Jane leans forward. Thanks for the ride, Ian.

    Yes, many thanks, Mark added.

Ian laughs, No problem. I thought it would make a nice change. Who knows, we might even see a bear or two.

Yes, I heard some were seen higher up, Jane said.

Well, as we will be high up, they won’t be a problem for us, ‘Mark said. Laughing.

As the plane rose higher, Ian pointed downwards. I must visit my cabin. He shook his head. Hopefully, the bears could not get through the steel shutters I installed.

Mark chuckled. Well, as I’ve bought a second-hand Cheroke jeep, we can check it out whenever you have time.

Jane leaned forward. If it’s ok, I’d like to join you? With all the rain we’ve had this last month, all the wildflowers will be starting to bloom.

Right, that’s another trip to look forward too, Ian exclaimed. Oh, it’s good to be back.

"Yes, and it’s good to see you, Mark said. patting Ian’s shoulder.

Once up above the top of the mountain, he then circled around. Using binoculars, Mark, and Jane looked downwards to see if they could see anything of interest. With nothing seen, Ian banked the plane around to check out another area.

One minute they were happy and laughing, the next they were gasping in horror. From out of nowhere, they had flown into a flock of geese. Jane cried out in alarm as the windscreen shatters, covered in blood and feathers. Ian cursed as the engine, blocked with dead and dying geese cuts out.
