Chapter 1
Victor Steele Taylor gazed at the photograph of his former Secretary of State, who had just been indicted for the brutal murder of his lover, Olivia Martinez. A deep, burning rage filled his heart, but he kept his composure as he spoke. Beware of the fury of a patient man,
he said through clenched teeth.
Natalie Patel Taylor, his wife, looked up from the scone she was preparing and sighed. Then you think poor Owen did it?
she asked, her voice heavy with sorrow.
Victor's eyes blazed with a fierce intensity as he responded, I don't just think it, Natalie. I know it. The evidence is overwhelming. And now, justice must be served for Olivia's senseless and violent death.
He slammed his fist onto the table, causing the teacups to rattle.
Natalie recoiled at the sudden outburst, but she knew better than to argue with her husband when he was in such a state. She silently handed him the plate of scones and poured him a cup of tea, hoping to calm his stormy emotions. But deep down, she knew that nothing could ease the pain and anger he felt for the loss of his dear friend Olivia.
The couple lay nestled in the lavish embrace of their king-size bed at Glenhaven, their sprawling country estate in Willowsby, New Jersey. Their matching breakfast trays rested on the edge of the bed, adorned with a single blood-red rose in a slender silver vase, mocking the serenity of the moment. The room was littered with the latest editions of The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, the London Times, and L'Observateur, strewn haphazardly across the delicately flowered, gossamer-soft quilt. The once tranquil ambiance was now fraught with tension and apprehension, as the couple awaited news that could alter their lives forever.
Victor's voice was barely above a whisper as he spoke, his disbelief and shock palpable. It's impossible,
he said, his words dragging out slowly. Owen was always the epitome of self-control, that's what made him such a success as Secretary of State. But after Constance's death during my second administration, something in him changed. And when he met Olivia, it was like he was a completely different person. He fell madly in love with her, no question about it.
Victor's eyes widened as he recalled the moment that still haunted him. I'll never forget when he slipped up in front of Lady Harper and called her Poopie. It was like he had lost all sense of reason, all sense of decorum. It was as if he had been consumed by some kind of insatiable desire that was beyond his control.
Victor's heart raced as he tried to make sense of the situation. He couldn't imagine what could have possibly driven Owen to such madness. The weight of the revelation was heavy on his mind, and he couldn't shake the feeling that something terrible was about to happen.
Natalie's words cut through Victor like a knife, and his heart sank with regret. He had missed out on so much by not meeting her earlier, not experiencing her brilliance and charm when he was leading the country. He couldn't help but wonder how different things might have been if she had been by his side all those years ago.
As he gazed at Natalie, he couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy towards his former self - the man who had no idea what he was missing out on. Her hair, disheveled and wild, only added to her allure, and her piercing blue eyes seemed to hold the entire world within them.
Despite his regrets, Victor felt a surge of gratitude that he had the opportunity to love and cherish this amazing woman now. She was his partner, his confidant, and his soulmate, and he couldn't imagine life without her.
As he looked into her eyes, he felt a sudden urge to remind her of just how much she meant to him. He took her hand and drew her close, savoring the warmth and softness of her skin. You know,
he whispered, I don't think I could have ever been bored by you. You're the most fascinating person I've ever met, and I thank my lucky stars every day that you're in my life.
Natalie's eyes glistened with tears, and she leaned in to kiss him. I love you, Victor,
she said, her voice filled with emotion.
I love you too, Natalie,
Victor replied, feeling his heart overflowing with love and gratitude. He knew that he would
