C:\Users\ASUS\Desktop\MGR compressed\2-min.JPGThose who sincerely render their selfless and impartial service for the society, especially for the uplift of the poor and the helpless, undoubtedly make own life a glorious history. Masses’ Darling MGR is an exemplary specimen of such a phenomenon. There are innumerable anecdotes told by legions his fans and admirers, bearing testimony for his philanthropy and other multi-faceted virtues and qualities. Nevertheless, any new untold-about... unheard-about episode in his life, would certainly be an added jewel to his crown of glory.
The popular original Tamil version of this book, ‘Ettavathu Vallal MGR’ by Manavai Ponmanickam, is a wonderful collection of such precious gems of experiences of people from all walks of life, who were connected to MGR one way or the other. It is rendered remarkably in English by Puthiyankom Murali, film-writer, in this book, MGR Philanthropist, the Ultimate, in two equal Volumes. While Volume-1 was successfully released earlier with a wide supportive response from the readers, Volume-II is now being released, replete with similar fascinating episodes from the Godly hero’s magnificent life-history.
C:\Users\ASUS\Desktop\MGR compressed\3-min.JPGWhen the great MGR., the Masses’ Darling, parted from us, causing an unbridgeable gap and an inestimable loss for the State, the sad tiding certainly rocked the multifaceted world with shocking waves for days and nights to millions of his fans and lovers in all spheres of life... and if we could collect and reproduce all their varied views and remarks that they must have expressed on the painful occasion, it would provide stuff for innumerable books to be printed on the MGR Prodigy. Due to dearth of space, let me capsule here for you what a few VVIPs in the film realm must have told in such a doleful plight.
Dr. Jayalalitha:
No words! My perturbed mind is full of him and the tearful millions of the State!
Saroja Devi:
What a Sad Loss! Chinnavar has left us all in a sea of tears! On this sorrowful occasion only his ever warming smile in my memory can wipe off my tears!
K.R. Vijaya:
What to say?! He always consoled worried millions! Who is there to console us now when he is no more?!
Kamalahasan:
"Now that Lovely Smile and those Loving Words will continue only in the minds of legions of his adorers like me... in his invaluable films and in the country’s history! There is no star like him, devoting time and energy in the realms of films and the State’s politics alike... and that is why he shone up equally in both the spheres!
He was a perennial source of inspiration behind many artistes like me from our budding days. He used to encourage me from time to time and pat me for all achievements!"
Rajinikanth:
We all are upset and aggrieved by the unconsolable demise of this great Soul. He only basically inspired artistes like me to come to Tamil filmdom, hankering after acting roles...
Vijayakanth:
He has left an unbridgeable gap in films and politics! Since childhood I used to be crazy about his films... and social activities. Such a craze only basically made many stars like me what we are! What a loss to the whole State!
Sathyaraj:
The film and political skies have become moonless with the loss of Puratchithalaivar MGR! He was so dear, amiable and brother-like and full of inspiration for all of us. I vividly recall that during the occasion of my sister’s wedding at Kovai, MGR who was then the CM., was present along with Janakiamma. When I introduced him to my mother, he courteously stood up and bowed to her! This incident exemplifies that MGR always honoured all Mothers alike.
Upon reading the book, Ettavathu Vallal MGR., he opined, So many books I’ve read on MGR., but this book of my friend, Ponmanickam, indeed, tops the list of all such books and is beyond compare! MGR’s oft-quoted question in it, to any one of his visitors, ‘What do you want from me...? What do you want to be through me?’ is quite catchy and heart-touching.
Shivakumar:
The great Soul gave all of us a Rocking Shock and left us...! An irreparable loss to the Worlds of Films and Politics! May God give us the fortitude to bear this! The unforgettable MGR roles in all His Ever Green Films were very much the heart-openers for artistes like me to come up in our careers...!
Many film personalities have been quite impressed by the popular book on MGR., Ettavathu Vallal-MGR., of Manavai Ponmanickam, as it contains the varied precious experiences they all had about MGR., in their lives, which can be highlighted briefly as under.
K. Bagyaraj:
Manavai Ponmanickam, Esq., has really sung encomiums for the Masses’ Darling MGR., in his book, Ettavathu Vallal-MGR., who was always one with all of us, and thus the writer has also assumed a welcome seat in all our hearts. The greatest contentment of all persons, is to occupy the minds of those who love them not only during their life-span, but also to continue to be in the minds of posterity with the fragrance of name and fame even after their deaths... which is factually beyond the God-given salvation itself and endows them with perpetuity! MGR is a Classic Example.
Director Shankar:
Ettavathu Vallal-MGR, the book on MGR., written by Manavai Ponmanickam whom I always affectionately call as my brother, would certainly impress every reader.
Comedian Vivek:
To write a preface for any book on MGR is like showing torch-light for the Sun; it is like harnessing the ocean with a dam... or like trying to lock up the cyclone! Similarly, the writer of the book, Ettavathu Vallal MGR also hardly needs an introduction! The history of the Super Sensation MGR., is an ever-green life-story written in the sweetest honey ever tasted by all... from the latest kids to the oldest people; while the literate people depend only on universities for pursuit of studies, both the literate and the illiterate masses alike depend on MGR and his films... and emulate him for self-enlightenment...!
Comedian Vadivel:
The book, Ettavathu Vallal-MGR., of my friend, Manavai Ponmanickam, on the Masses’ Darling MGR., who was generous and kind hearted to anyone who approached him for any help, has certainly won all our appreciation. Would anyone sing of the skies without moon shining in it...? Will there be any life on the earth without water...? Can there be chivalry without any war anywhere...? Whom else to sing praises and encomiums for... without our Masses’ Darling MGR?!
Director Pandiaraj:
"After suffering from many bad experiences in life, I happened to read the tenth edition of the book, Ettavathu Vallal-MGR by Manavai Ponmanickam, and really got a tingling feeling throughout my body and mind... and got rejuvenated in spirit, charged with a renewed confidence in life! What an inspiring book. My wife too read it many times with tears of joy and repeatedly narrated to me each of the unbelievable experiences of people about our God-like MGR., to her heart’s content. We hosted Manavai Ponmanickam the very next day at our residence and gifted him with a gold pen with the best wishes that many more editions
