    LORENZO

BOOM! I woke up to the sound of dishes breaking after being thrown and screams echoing through the walls. I looked at the time to find out I’d only gotten three hours of sleep. I hate hiding.

That woke you up, too? Well, The Mafia IS after us. Margo, the girl I heroically saved from an abusive relationship with a Mafia boss and gave up my normalcy for, said to me.

Who knew Jack was the leader of the mafia? I replied, wishing I was back in my regular life.

I did, and I told you he was. She retorted.

After I set his brother’s house on fire! I yelled

Shhh! Lorenzo, we don’t want to be too loud. She whispered. A THUMP came from behind our neighbors’ walls.

Our neighbors aren’t going to do anything; they too busy yelling at each other to be worried about us.

But what about the Mafia, they have eyes everywhere!

Yea, how do they keep finding us?

    They’re the mafia, remember.

That doesn’t give them powers, just weapons. And a little backup.

    Whatever. I’m hungry. She pouted.

I’ll go get some food. I got out of bed and grabbed a white tank top off the floor. I asked Margo for her slides, but she didn’t respond. She just pointed at a corner of the room without looking away from her phone. We were in a tiny room with barely enough space to fit the blow-up mattress. I walked out of the room and entered the smallest hallway you could ever see. It was a mini rectangle that connected the living room, bathroom, and 2 bedrooms. I walked into the living room and grabbed my wallet off the couch, smiling at the blue alien design. I counted my cash, then started walking.

We were hiding because I decided to start a war with a woman beater named Jack, who turned out to be in charge of the mafia. He’s been chasing me because I kidnapped his girlfriend and did a few other things that I’m not too proud to mention. I didn’t think things through at the time, because now I’m missing how my life used to be. If I searched for a better way, I probably could’ve avoided a lot of the unnecessary pain.

On the walk, I saw a face that looked familiar. I thought nothing of it and continued walking. I walked in the store and saw an Indian guy behind the counter. He followed me around the store as I grabbed some snacks for Margo. I was muttering to myself about his rudeness, when I remembered the guy I passed earlier on the walk here and how I knew him. When I was being tortured, he was there holding a hammer!

I cursed myself then ran out of the store in time to see him turn at our apartment building. I was being too careless! I thought as I ran after him. When I turned the corner, he tripped me and laughed. You’re a hard kid to find.

Don’t call me a kid! I yelled as I jumped up. I tried to kick him; but he grabbed my foot and pulled it, knocking me on my back. He tried to pull out his gun, but I recovered quickly and kicked him in the knee. He dropped it, giving me the chance to grab it and point it at him. Tell me how y’all keep finding us, or else! I said with a serious expression written on my face.

His smile sent chills down my spine and everything in me was saying something was wrong, so I spun around and shot behind me, I fell for his bluff. My feet were swept from under me, and the guy jumped on top of me, catching his gun and putting it to my head. You’re a cautious fella, aren’t ya? He snickered.

Ready to give up yet? I said as I tried to squirm from under him.

You’re a funny guy, Lorenzo. He answered.

And you’re a dead one. I smiled as I used my feet to knock him into the bushes. His gun flew to a neighboring porch, with me in pursuit. I guess my gunshot must’ve scared someone, because I heard sirens in the distance. The man got up from the bushes and I emptied the clip in his direction before I ran to the apartment. The cops were on their way so we gotta move. I yelled for Margo, but silence answered in her stead. I looked around and figured she wasn’t in the apartment.

Did she go somewhere? Did she hear the fighting and run? Nah, Margo would’ve said something, so did they take her while I was at the store? Was she taken while I was fighting? If it’s the latter, I might be able to catch up. If I was at the store, then I would have to find where they’re hiding her. Now I wish I didn’t shoot that man. I grabbed a knife and placed my new pistol in my pocket. It stood out, so I took it out and dug it into the back of my pants. I ran to the back door, passing a note on the fridge. I turned around and read it.

Getting ice, be back in 10 :)

I cursed myself for missing it in my search. I was in the process of packing her things, when red and blue lights flashed their way through the front windows. Crap, we were out of time and she wasn’t back yet! I only grabbed her essentials and peeked out the window. There were two cops, one was crouching by the body in the bushes and the other was talking on his walkie talkie. A dark figure walked up to the cop by the car and stabbed him. The other cop turned just in time for the figure to throw the blade, piercing his forehead. The figure was tall, wearing dark shades, a red suit, and a black tie. No doubt a hitman hired by Jack. I felt sorry for the cops, but I couldn’t risk warning them.

Too much time was wasted just watching them, I need to go. I ran to the back door and reached for the knob. The door swung into my face, forcing me to drop everything. Are you alright, Lorenzo? And why do you have a knife? Margo wondered, worried.

We gotta go! I said as I picked it up.

Why? A shadow walked past the window and her eyes grew. Who is out there?

The tooth fairy, who do you think? Turn around and let’s get outta here! I opened the back door, but she began walking in the opposite direction.

    "Ok, let me grab~

    No, let’s just go!

Get down! She yelled as she tackled me to the ground, I felt agonizing pain in my lower abdomen. Bullets riddled through the windows, redecorating the apartment. I fought the pain and the urge to blackout, so I could get to the back door.

She noticed the knife in my stomach and squealed. I put my index finger to my lips, shushing her as I opened the door and gestured for her to go. She ran out just as the front door was kicked open. The hitman was equipped with an Uzi and pointed it at me, I tried to run but tripped.

My chest smacked the ground, the knife stabbed deeper, and bullets flew past, marking the area I was running to just seconds before. I rolled on my back and looked around. I saw my gun, inches away from me and heard Margo screaming her lungs out for me to get up, I ignored her and grabbed the gun.

I crawled to the side of the door, watching it and was trying to keep my aim on it. The hitman walked out and aimed at Margo. I pulled the trigger as fast as I could, but the clip was empty. The hitman looked at me after hearing the click and smiled. Now that I’ve got a good look, I realize it’s a female. She turned out to be a beautiful pale woman with blonde hair. I always knew I’d die by a woman. I threw the gun at her, but she didn’t even have to
