    Introduction

These stories will introduce you to a young brother and a sister and their adventures. Their names are Molly and Lee. They are average Jewish children. They live with their parents and their big, fluffy dog in a house near your neighborhood. Their family goes to a synagogue similar to yours. Molly and Lee are not magical or super brains. They cannot fly or become invisible (although sometimes their schoolbooks disappear when it is time to catch the school bus), but they do have some very unusual experiences. Most of their adventures seem to take place around the time of Jewish holidays. I hope that you will enjoy reading these stories with or to your children.

    Holidays, Holidays, Holidays

Summer vacation was over. School would start in a few days. Lee was already in bed, thinking about the wonderful things the family had done during the summer. As he lay in the bed, he could hear his parents’ voices from downstairs. They were discussing plans for the upcoming holiday of Rosh Hashanah.

As he listened to the conversation, he was drifting off to sleep. Suddenly, he found himself in a large room. There, sitting around a large table were some of the Jewish holidays having a discussion. Rosh Hashanah was upset. I don’t see why we are having this discussion. After all, my name says it all. The Book of Life is then closed. Jews fast and pray all day long, hoping that their year will be good. How can any holiday be more important than that?"

It was time for Succot to speak up. Brushing a twig from his hair, and eating an apple from the basket of fruits and vegetables that he carried, he said, My holiday is a time of thanksgiving. In days gone by, the Israelites would travel miles and miles from their homes to bring the best of their crops to the temple to show how grateful they were for a good harvest. Can any holiday top that?

I can, said Chanukah. She had flaming, red hair. She seemed to glow. My holiday celebrates a great miracle! And don’t forget the children. I am certainly their favorite holiday. They get to light candles, eat latkes and jelly donuts, and even get Chanukah gelt and presents. Chanukah celebrates the right of people to observe their religion no matter where they live!

With that, Passover stood up. He was carrying a long stick that he used to help him walk. You are not right. He gazed around the room, shaking his stick, "My holiday celebrates a whole people moving from slavery to freedom. Not just a few, but thousands and thousands! If it
