      Pulsing in the brain

      Kudzu Lament

      Stealthy tangle-weed

      Heavily shading fodder

      Erosion control…

      Climbing weed coiling

      Noxious vine eating the South

      So voraciously…

      Southern sensation

      Interloping invader

      Indestructible…

      Drought

      Glaring sun blazing

      Hot and sticky in the shade

      Heat with a vengeance

      Humid air heavy

      Arid landscape parched and dry

      Insufferable

      Grass seared to a crisp

      Precipitation lacking

      El Nino effect…

      Paradox

      Weeds have flowers

      Roses have prickly thorns

      Blooms have sweet nectar

      Pistils make pollen forlorn…

      Bees flit from petal to petal

      Wings in sync to steady work song

      Butterflies suckle silently

      Humming birds zoom amid the throng

      Small workers with large tasks

      Busy creatures bear duress…

      Climate Change

      What price is progress?

      Mother earth is suffering

      Catastrophic change

      Glaciers are melting

      Warming oceans are rising

      Thin ozone layer

      Bees are dying in droves

      Ecosystems are collapsing

      Rampant pollution

      Indistinct seasons

      Man’s industrial footprint

      Planet in peril

      The Aching of Earth

      Shrinking ozone layer

      Global warming

      Ice sheet retreating

      Permafrost thinning

      Rising ocean levels

      Receding coastlines

      Industrial carbon footprint

      Polluted streams and oceans

      Dying coral reef

      Violent category cyclones

      Depleted rain forests

      Disturbed natural habitats

      Prolonged droughts

      Uncontained forest fires

      Endangered species

      Genetic modification

      New normal

      History Speaks

      Black Moses woman,

      Sounding the discreet alarm:

      Let my people go.

      Woman of vision,

      Sensing cries of her people:

      Liberty or death.

      People of wisdom,

      Feeling for colored peoples.

      Breathe in liberty.

      Badge of Honor

      Noble boys in blue

      Donning badges of honor

      To serve and protect

      Backing boys in blue

      Cruisers patrolling the beat

      Battered boys in blue

      Violent rampage

      Officers under duress

      Tested boys in blue

      Long arm of the law

      Justice meted with vengeance

      Tarnished boys in
