This book offers a formula project assignment designed to effectively improve student performance in the subject of Reading and Language Arts. You will be happy with the results! It can be used as a center activity in class, a project assignment, or just simply something that parents can monitor at home in order to strengthen their child's reading and language arts skills. As a project assignment, it takes roughly three weeks to complete. This assignment can be applied to almost any type of reading genre. It works best with story books. You may creatively add your own task and assignment ideas to the project to enhance its value. Grading and evaluating the project assignment can be performed at your own discretion. When your child or student fully completes the PQRK3SEC6 formula project, they will have exercised the following academic skills: surveying, inquiring, identifying, chronological sequencing, applying background knowledge, identifying the text structure, summarizing, essay writing (opinion/informative), comparing and contrasting, creative reasoning, critical reasoning, identifying the major components of a story, reflective writing, transitional writing, spelling, grammar, punctuation, making inferences, drawing conclusions, making predictions, extracting details/citing the text, providing sound evidence, explaining more fully in your own words, elaborating, and creating personalized illustrative artwork. As a bonus, this book offers several QR coded instructional videos where I personally teach the formal writing process. I include high scoring written student sample essays, and share several ELA learning strategies that yield great results. In final, I made sure to write a Spanish language version of this book, which is intended to be applied to that particular language. I conveniently combined both the English and Spanish versions all into one volume. This formula project is a great way that parents can take part in their child's academic improvement in school and connect with their child's teacher.

Michael Renna has taken the guesswork out of how to effectively teach reading and writing strategies to your students. His easy-to-follow step-by-step plan could easily be applied to all disciplines, not just Language Arts. An excellent resource for parents who are homeschooling their children as well!

—Lisa Medeiros, Seventh-Grade Language Arts Teacher

My two children had the fortune of being taught by Michael Renna when they were in elementary school, and his commitment to the educational growth of my boys and their peers has always been commendable. He wrote this formula with the intent of bringing together parents and their children to experience the benefits of devoting time into academic performance from the early stages of the elementary years. The Reading and Language Arts Formula provides a helpful guideline to achieve success in the classroom by asking for a hands-on approach at evaluating a given assignment and undergoing a step-by-step process to fulfill the required schoolwork. If this formula is applied with a genuinely positive and hopeful mindset, an exceptional result that's mutually beneficial to the student and their parent can be achieved.

    ––Jeannie Howard, Parent

The Reading and Language Arts Formula is a quick read that can produce long-term benefits for the grade school students who apply this practical and original method of academic improvement. This customizable formula is a collaborative effort between parent and child to further develop writing and presentation skills in addition to encouraging their overall investment and enthusiasm with their education. Michael Renna's structured self-help guide is the fulfillment of his desire for distributive knowledge that carries on into a child's adult life.

    ––Danny Mora Howard, Former Student

Outstanding strategy! Students can achieve academic success with steps to understand complex text. Writing about reading supports literacy skills. Mr. Renna's formula provides all students with a memorable strategy to become excellent writers and thinkers!

––Mrs. Amy Combs, Sixth-Grade Reading Teacher

I was introduced to the formula in the fourth grade, and I'm currently a student. The formula helped me become a better writer by helping me be more descriptive, define words, and sequencing a story. Coming from a student in Mr. Renna's class, I recommend you read Mr. Renna's book because it helps novelists, readers, and students improve their writing.

    ––Candace Maldonado, Student

The Reading and Language Arts Formula PQRK3SEC6 was introduced to my daughter in the fourth grade by Mr. Michael Renna. The formula gave my daughter confidence and helped improve her writing skills. The sequencing, being descriptive, and defining words in her writing taught her how to soar using the step-by-step instructions as her guide. The book is so user-friendly that anyone could apply the steps to any classroom setting for different courses. The Reading and Language Arts Formula PQRK3SEC6 is a priceless book that should be in every kids and adult library at home.

    ––Kimberly Conley, Parent

I recommend this book for all students. It personally helped me know how to handle any writing prompt and not have my mind go blank on what to say.

    ––Ellen Tong, Fifth-Grade Student

The value of the PQRK3SEC6 formula should not be underestimated. I've seen the faces of my fifth-grade students light up when they were given the opportunity to work within this project during the school day. This prescription formula works!

Within this structured writing project, students are still impressively creative and enjoy any opportunity to share their writing with others. The growth workout and student successes begin immediately after implementation.

By the end of the school year, students, parents, friends, and administrators all have writing achievements to discuss and celebrate. The wonderful results my students experienced came from implementing the PQ without the manual many years ago. At that time, Michael would give us the application during quick lunch breaks, hallway gatherings, and whenever we as the fifth-grade team could get a moment to meet. Public school teachers certainly understand. There is never enough time in the school day. But now, the PQRK3SEC6 formula is available in a manual that is well thought out and easy to follow with examples for quick implementation. I believe parents and teachers who are not familiar with this formula will find this manual to be an effective teaching tool. The PQ is not limited to the language arts classroom. It can be modified for other disciplines as well. Perfect!

    ––Vashty BasYahweh, Educator

We know Michael Renna as an outstanding teacher as our grandson was in his class, and during this time, we saw tremendous improvement in his schoolwork. We are happy he is sharing his knowledge and classroom experience with parents (and grandparents) in his book, The Reading and Language Arts Formula. The concepts he describes and examples he uses are easy to understand and apply.

Noteworthy is to have this methodology in both Spanish and English as multilingual families are often in need of language help in their native tongue. This book fulfills that need for both parents and students as well as their teachers.

    ––Marta and John Daly, Grandparents

The PQ is a comprehensive reading project that requires students to connect with a novel at an analysis level. They go through a variety of steps to demonstrate understanding of the book, while also developing capacity as readers and writers. It also allows for creativity and individual expression of their ideas and opinions. The PQ project is a deep dive into understanding not just one book, but the art and craft of literature as well.

    –– Debbie Jackson, Reading Coach

    Opening Thoughts

Generally, it seems to me that often enough, the most successful students are the ones who have parents actively helping them with their academics at home. Then why don't all parents work with their children on their academics at home? In my experience, I found that it is not because they don't want to, but it is often the case where they don't know how to.

This book offers a way that parents, teachers, and students can unite. The book offers an academic ongoing formula project that will get parents, teachers, and students working together. The result will be a more successful student when it comes to reading and writing in school. After all, working together can mean winning together.
