The secret of the Blue Diamond.

The prisoner, Raider, was still with me in the room as we both wanted to continue our conversation. My purpose was to hear from him if he found the famous diamond called Witch’s eye and what he has done with the woman he abducted that night.

There was too much blood already on that diamond and two people were killed in the past because of it. If this diamond will be sold on the current market, it will cost around £780,000 or even more.

I was too close to solving this mystery as I had in front of me the person, who was holding Witch’s eyes in his hand in the past.

I knew about it, but I needed to make him talk.

Raider looked at me. I got the impression that he knew all my questions in advance. He was very clever and intelligent. I read from his file, that he fled to the USA a few days after the murder.

But I did not know the reason behind it. As soon as he caught his flight from Gatwick, he disappeared from the view of the police for a few months. Until one usual morning, he became the victim himself. He was admitted to the A&E department of San Francisco General Hospital after a deep gunshot and he was lucky to be alive.

The description of the woman who shot him in the chest was similar to the description of a missing person from the house of the mystery, where Sarah had disappeared a few months ago. How the missing person appeared in the police records in the UK and then became the main suspect in attempted murder in San Francisco a few months later was a puzzle for me. 

Raider survived the gunshot and reported to the police, that the woman with whom he fled together from the UK was the person who tried to kill him a few months after they rented the flat in San Francisco.

The information about the woman was limited. Her fingerprint was never found in the USA and UK police databases. This was the bad luck of the Raider,  his DNA was left at the crime scene in the house with the dead body of a man found in the basement at his house in the UK in the past.

Raider was arrested as soon as he recovered from the gunshot and he was placed in prison for the crime he had done in the UK. The extradition papers were sorted out in time and he was escorted to the UK for the murder of a man in the basement.

His file was unique and I had a lot of questions in my head to ask him. I can feel his sadness as he was very unlucky to be in trouble all the time. I had the feeling that he will tell me what happened to him in the past and I was right about it.

Raider wanted to talk to me and he asked if the prison officer can stay behind the door and not with us. My interest in his secrets was so strong that I agreed about it, especially since prison officers can still see us through the glass door and act in time if it would be necessary.

The time for secrets to be revealed was started. I looked at Raider in his eyes and asked him the question, which was still in my mind. I knew the name of the woman who tried to kill him in the USA, but I wanted to hear it from him.

Raider, tell me. The woman which shot you in the chest in San Francisco, was it Sarah?

The prolonged silence was in the air and it was the best answer for everything.

Then Raider started to talk and I just hold my breath as his story was so magical and dramatic at the same time.

"You are right, Miss. I took Sarah with me after when I murdered her husband. While she was consciousness on the floor, I found the second secret safe in the wall of the basement. I knew the code  for this safe from my grandfather as he gave me a few combinations before he died and it worked.

When I heard the click from the safe open, my heart was racing up and down. I could not believe my own eyes as all my dreams were coming true at that moment. The mystery blue diamond Witch’s Eye was in front of my eyes in that hidden safe.

I could not wish for anything else at that moment and I just wanted to grab it with my hand and run away. But there was a problem called Sarah. She was still lying on the cold floor of the basement and she did not show any signs of life.

I did not want to kill her and I stepped close to her to check her pulse. Suddenly I realised, that she is still alive. But what I needed to do with her at that time?

Her life was in my hands and it made me feel very powerful at the same time. I decided to take her with me and decide later what I will do with her.

She woke up only in my car when I was too far away from the scene of the crime. She was a very clever and cunning woman, but I did not realise it at that time.

When she opened her eyes, she looked at me for a while and then she asked me a direct question:

I can see your face now, do you plan to kill me or leave me alive?

It was the first phrase which I heard from her and it made me think. I was still not sure about her near future. From the other side, she was calm and she was not screaming in hysteria, which

I was expecting from her in such a situation.

She can control her emotions and she was not even shaking at all. Sarah looked young and pretty and it will be sad to kill her now. But she was right about one thing. She saw my face and she can become the main witness against me in the future.

Will I be able to keep her near to me most of the time? Probably yes. It was my naive thinking at that time. However, Sarah had another cunning plan for me, but I learnt about it later a hard way.

Will you fly with me to San Francisco? The decision to run away together abroad appeared in my head suddenly. I wanted to know her answer and of course, she agreed with me. My constant problem was that I always trusted women too easily and I can not feel her real plan towards me. She pretended to be nice and calm, but in reality, she appeared to be the strong person

I ever met.

She learnt very quickly, that I had the Blue Diamond with me.

I told her the family story about it starting from the death of my grandfather. I can see the growing interest to me in her eyes without realising that it was the interest in the diamond.

She was not grateful to me at all, that I left her alive. All she wanted was the diamond and my life.

Funny enough, I had read a lot of stories about women serial killers in the past, but I was not able to see any signs of danger when she was near to me.

It was her idea how to hide the big diamond through the X-ray of the airport’s security and it worked. I will never guess it myself if I would be alone.

When we landed safely in San Francisco, we rented a small flat for a month. It was a living joke. I was holding in my hands the diamond, which cost a fortune. However, I can have at that time only McDonald’s food and the small rent.

My life skills of survival helped me at that time anyway. I got the connection with one of the gang’s groups and started to do the small dirty jobs for them. The benefit of it was easy money which started to flow into my pocket very easily. The other benefit was the gun which was given to me for permanent use.

Despite the few months that passed, the future of the diamond was not sorted at that time. I tried to be overcareful to find the right buyer for it, but I missed the killer behind my back.

I did not know anything about Sarah’s past as she always pretends to be a nice and ordinary woman. However, her sudden skill in cleaning my gun surprised me one evening. When I asked about it, she just smiled.

It did not ring any bells in my head to see the danger coming from her. One night I got drunk and fell asleep on the sofa. This was the possibility, that she used following her cunning plans. When I opened my eyes, I saw Sarah with my gun standing in front of me.

Sarah put the gun down. Do not point it on me, I whispered this phrase to her as my voice disappeared suddenly from the fear of death.

The sudden and strong pain from the gunshot in my chest left me unconscious for a while, but it saved my life. When I opened my eyes, I saw Sarah packing her bag. The diamond was in her hand and she hide it inside her bra. Then she stepped close to me to see if I was still alive.

I closed my eyes and pretended that I am not even breathing. Luckily for me, Sarah did not notice anything and she left. I was lying in the pool of my blood and I was ready to cry from pain and the feeling of losing everything apart from my life.
