he heat shimmered off the runway tarmac as Jennifer stepped out from the plane. It penetrated the thin soles of her sandals and caused the sweat to trickle down her back.
Glorious, just bloody glorious,
she thought. She had left Canada in -20 degrees she was ready for this break. Flinging her backpack over her shoulder and picking up the handle of her Pullman, she made her way to the airport terminal. She had long since stopped checking baggage. She cleared customs ahead of everyone else and walked through the customs area ahead of everyone else. This was going to be a vacation, even if the trip was to be a bridesmaid, yet again, for another one of her besties who were dropping like flies into the marriage net.
Jennifer had started off her studies in the sciences at University of Alberta but had quickly become overwhelmed and had transferred to journalism where she had excelled and currently had a job as a travel writer. She had done well and had launched her own travel blog online and wrote for in-flight magazines for different airlines. As a result, she got great deals on flights, hotels and restaurants around the world hoping that she would highlight them in her blog. It was a great life being a digital nomad and one she didn’t intend giving up for a life in the suburbs with a husband and a brood of snotty nosed brats in tow. Still, she loved her friends.
