Zwischen Jean-Paul Sartre und Emmanuel Levinas enthüllt sich ein Geflecht aus Nähe und Ferne, wie es selten zwei Denkern eigen ist.

In der Explikation der differenten Antworten, welche beide Autoren auf thematisch benachbarte Fragen geben, offenbart sich eine Spannung zwischen beiden Philosophien, die nicht notwendig als reiner Gegensatz gelesen werden muss.
Insbesondere zeichnen die Beiträge ein deutlicheres Bild jener gleichzeitigen Nähe und Ferne und holen einen Dialog nach, den Levinas und Sartre hätten führen sollen, jedoch nie geführt haben.
