Charles Perrault
Charles Perrault (1628-1703) was a French author best known for his contribution to the creation of the fairy-tale genre. His most notable works include "Little Red Riding Hood," "Cinderella," "Puss in Boots," "The Sleeping Beauty," and "Bluebeard." Many of his tales have been adapted into operas, ballets, plays, and films.

019imagenUn molinero dejó por toda herencia a sus tres hijos su molino, su asno y su gato. El reparto se hizo enseguida; no se llamó ni al notario ni al procurador, pues se habrían engullido todo el humilde patrimonio. El hijo mayor se quedó con el molino, el mediano con el asno y el menor solo con el gato. Este último no podía consolarse por haber recibido tan pobre herencia: «Mis hermanos —decía— podrán ganarse la vida honradamente trabajando juntos; pero yo, cuando me haya comido al gato y me haya hecho un manguito con su piel, tendré que morirme de hambre».
El gato, que fingió no haber oído estas palabras, le dijo con tono serio y pausado:
—No os aflijáis, mi amo, no tenéis más que darme un saco y encargarme un par de botas para andar por la espesura, y veréis que no habéis recibido tan mala herencia como pensáis.
