Introduction
In 1981, my parents fulfilled their dream of building a home on a nearby lake in North Carolina. The twenty years I spent coming to their lake home as a teenager, a college student and then into early married life were packed with great, long-lasting memories. Since my parents sold the lake home in 2001, I often think about the old lake home days. My wife and I started kicking around the idea of possibly getting a place of our own to start building those same great memories with our family.
Reality kicked in quickly when we started shopping around for lake homes on the same lake as my parent’s home from a financial and availability perspective. Lake home property prices started at over $500k which was over
