When I reflect on my life—I am a son, husband, father, and grandfather—I need to acknowledge that I would have been a better disciplinarian if I had connected all the dots between learning and good decision-making. I would have made better decisions if I had made these connections sooner. I could have been a better father and husband if I had been more of a teacher than a disciplinarian—more concerned with teaching about behaviors and decisions that promoted positive results than just following rules.

Discipline offers two choices: the high road or the low road. Taking the high road in life is choosing to learn about which choices result in good decisions, bringing rewards. On the other hand, when one makes a low road decision, he makes decisions from a lack of understanding or incorrect information, which results in undesirable consequences and thus requires correction and limits potential.

My goal in writing this booklet is to help others
