    BIBLICAL ROOTS OF NATURAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

    AS I STATED in the introduction, natural leadership development can best be defined as the process of understanding the environmental influences that shape the nature, character, and authority of leaders. This concept is not expressly identified in the Bible, but it is deeply rooted there. A careful examination of Genesis, chapters 1 and 2, reveals the following: (a) God created man from the dust of the earth—nature, (b) man was made in the image of God—character, and (c) man was given dominion by God to rule over the earth—authority.

    The creation account shows that Adam and Eve were placed in a perfect situation—a flawless environment—with the nature, character, and authority of leadership. The development of this leadership is a process that happens in the following distinct areas: (a) The leader’s relationship with the Creator, (b) the leader’s relationship with others, and (c) the leader’s relationship with the environment.

    THE CREATION OF MAN—NATURE

    Many of the leadership problems that face our political, social, cultural, educational, religious, and economic structures can be resolved by paying close attention to the Word of God. The Creation account implies that the environment plays a significant role in a person’s development.
