    Dedication

So, I acknowledge my Father, Arnold Scott Jackson and my mother, Irene Jackson for their unforgettable gifts to me and their continuing impact on my life. And I dedicate this book to them with all the love that I can muster, which is much, much less than they greatly deserve. I will continue to honor them by treating people with utmost love and respect and respecting values and mores of the country in which I reside!

Furthermore, I dedicate the book to the American politician-hero, who I believe best exemplified the honesty, integrity, values, courage and advocacy-fight for the economically poor, underserved, and marginalized as my father, a (Member of the House of Representative—MHR) Member of Parliament did—to the deserving Honorable John Lewis, Member of the United States House of Representative. And to share the honor with my mother, who served as a wife and advisor to my father—I dedicate the book to the greatly deserving Lilian Miles Lewis, wife and advisor to Representative John Lewis. These noble individuals are the very best of my father and mother. No doubt, they are now celebrating together wherever they are—in heaven.

As I completed this book, an African-American friend, Isaac Pearl Colenberg, Sr. transitioned to his heavenly Father. I had told him many times that he reminded me of my father. I paid tributes to him, at his homegoing service. I dedicate the book to Brother Isaac as well. He was kind, intelligent and a great advisor. May his soul rest in peace! Blessings and Love to them all!

    ACKNOWLEDGMENT

My father did two unforgettable things for me-- his first son. Firstly, when I was born and he discovered that he had finally produced his first son after two lovely daughter, he named me in honor of the person he thought was America’s greatest president during his life time—Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Secondly, when I was a little boy, perhaps about eight years of age, in the second grade of our one-room red top elementary school, he gave me a book which he had picked-up when he was a migrant farm worker in Traverse City, Michigan, How to Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie. Evidently, my father practiced principles he had learned from the book—he came from a family line of nice people anyway—because he drew to himself people of varying socio-economic, gender, age, and political persuasions. No wonder he was regarded as a great Politian—and perhaps wanted me to follow in his footsteps.

My dear mother would not allow my father to outdo her with his special gifts to me—my name and a book. So, being a little more scholarly than my father, she decided to give me what only a mother can give to her firstborn son. Firstly, she gave me a name, which relatives call me to this very day, and she has never called me by another name—Mr. Frank. I cannot remember being called any other name by my relatives until my out of town and out of country nieces and nephews started co call me Uncle Franklin. Secondly, my mother gave me a copy of the book, A Man Without a Country, by Edward Everett Hale. Do doubt, my mother was warning me against making impulsive and rash, irreversible decisions. And that I should never forget my country of origin—I have tried my best to comply implicit warnings.

    PREFACE

This book relates how drastically the United States of America (United States) has changed during the past few years, and especially during the recent ten-year period, or so. Some changes are alarming—not positive, particularly to Americans-by-Choice (citizens and residents of United States who by their volition choose to make the United States their home). These individuals migrated to the United States, or their parents did, for essentially one reason—opportunities: 1) Opportunity to further education or to work, and 2) Freedom to Democracy (freedom from oppression). So, Democracy is tremendously important to Americans-by-Choice, as well as to those who are seeking the privilege of becoming Americans-by-Choice.

The author, an American-by-Choice himself, has observed changes in the United States and has talked with others. He uses fictitious characters and metaphors to illustrate the experiences of Americans-by-Choice. They shared their experiences and observations on attempts to move or diminish their ‘cheese’ (source of physical sustenance) home-United States—to move her in what they believe would be a wrong direction--attempts to destroy or diminish her Democracy. Moving the United States in a wrong direction would render Americans-by-Choice and other Democracy loving people, living in the United States, as, ‘people without a country---similarly to the protagonist in Edward Everett Hale’s book, A Man without a Country.

Throughout the book the author interweaves the voices of characters who share their experiences in their beloved United States and their commitment and resolve to protect, preserve, and improve their home, their country-United States and her Democracy.

The book decries what is seemingly, at best, uncertainty about and questioning by some regarding the validity of United States’ Democratic process; and, at worst, others exhibiting a desire and even attempts to destroy or diminish the Democratic process. The book emphasizes that the Democratic process in the United States will prevail, because Americans-by-Choice and other Democracy loving people, residing in the United States, will do all they can to protect, preserve, and improve the United States and her Democracy.

This delightful easy to read little book will make you laugh and make you cry. It make you appreciate the United States and her Democracy. It will make you appreciate and respect those who stand-up for Democracy. If you do not yet an advocate for Democracy, at this point, the book will compel you to reflect on the meaning and importance of Democracy. Above all the book encourages eligible lovers and embracers of Democracy, living in the United States, to vote and to encourage others to vote for the Political Party which best manifests in words and deeds its support and advocacy for Democracy and core values and mores of the United States. The book recognizes the urgent need for healing in the United States (emotional, psychological, and even spiritual healing) for the perpetrators of hurt and pain and for the victims. The author argues that the fragile Democracy will be under continuous threat unless true healing occurs. He suggests that, in many cases, true healing will require the cooperation of humans with God! The book includes God’s formula for healing the land. The book is not intended to be religious; however the narrator’s strong Christian belief-faith is evident throughout the book. May this little book inspire you to do your part in protecting, preserving, and improving the United States and her fragile Democracy, and Democracy wherever you might be! The book will be a constant reminder of the importance of being vigilant in protecting United States’ fragile Democracy.
