    "Going West" is a novel by Basil King developed from the eponymous short story published in Pictorial Review in 1918. The story was later included in the collection "The Spreading Dawn: Stories of the Great Transition." The story follows the life and death of a newlywed American businessman Mr. Lester, who gets drawn into the turmoil of WWI. Like many other books by King, the story has a strong spiritual background, questioning the reasons and moral basis for the war.
