Stories from the Winter Fire
The winter has been long and hard. This is the time for sacred stories. This is the time of the storyteller. Do you have something more important to do than to hear the stories of your ancestors and relations? Then gather round this fire deep within the people’s cave and share this warmth and protection. But first, we must prepare ourselves for the stories so that we might hear and receive them in a good way.

The East
My body and soul yearn for renewal, so with deep respect and intent, I light my fire and load my pipe with prayer. With rattle and sage, I walk from the sacred fire to the East. To a place of all beginnings. A place where life and journey begins. I lift my hands and prayers to the Creator, and I invite all the Allies and Protectors of the East to come and work with me in a good way, for I am here in a good way. I invite the songbirds, which greet the morning sun, the Plant People, the Tall Standing Ones, the Mist People, and the Dew People. I recognize the unfolding of imagination and inspiration. I visualize the color yellow and sing the tone of Ahhh.
This is the sacred moment of dawn, which opens the portals of other worlds and possibilities. The East is a good place, and I come in a good way to ask support in my work and
