Preface
This English-Chinese dictionary provides many currently popular words and phrases, as well as those most basic ones. Every English word or phrase is accompanied by its Chinese meaning, Pinyin (i.e. Chinese phonetic symbols), and a front tag.
The front tag of every English item usually shows which subject it is about (such as sports, IT, crime, banking, etc.) and its word class (i.e. noun, verb, adjective, etc.). For example n. (i.e. noun名词), adj. (i.e. adjective形容词), phr. (i.e. phrase短语), prep. (i.e. preposition介词), int. (i.e. interjection感叹词), det. (i.e. determiner限定词), antonym反义词, synonym同义词, sports运动, grammar语法, IT信息技术, mobile phone手机, aircraft飞机, and so on.
For a Chinese meaning, more than one English word or phrase may be provided. For example ‘{train/n.} aero train / air-bearing train气垫列车’, here both ‘aero train’ and ‘air-bearing train’ are noun phrases about train (according to the front tag {train/n.}), and have the Chinese meaning ‘气垫列车’.
Abbreviations are provided for some items, e.g. ‘2D (two-dimensional)’, ‘5G (5th generation mobile networks)’, and ‘acute care unit (ACU)’. Here ‘2D’ is an abbreviation for ‘two-dimensional’, ‘5G’ for ‘5th generation mobile networks’, and ‘ACU’ for ‘acute care unit’.
For some English items about country names, this dictionary also supplies their capitals, official currencies and languages. For example, ‘China (CHN/CN)中国 ─ Beijing北京’, ‘China (CHN/CN)中国 ─ Renminbi (RMB)人民币’, ‘China (CHN/CN)中国 ─ Standard Chinese 普通话’.
For some English items about nutrients needed by our bodies, the food sources are provided at the same time. For example, ‘calcium (Ca) 钙---------- dairy product 奶制品/ salmon鲑鱼’.
This ebook is just volume 3 of the English-Chinese dictionary (in three volumes), which is helpful in learning English, modern simplified Chinese and Pinyin. You’re worth it!
