INTRODUCTION
Pass on what you have learned.
—Yoda
I started creating Star Wars recipes because I wanted my kids to see how much fun food can be. By making meals from scratch as themed food with characters that they know and love, I hoped that they’d be more willing to be adventurous and try new things.
The Star Wars universe is a vast, creative place, full of inspiration. Whether a favorite droid, planet, or creature, seeing something familiar on a plate will always bring a smile. All generations can connect to Star Wars adventures, which makes sharing the experience of making food exciting for all ages.
Every Padawan learner must complete the Jedi Trials to become a Jedi Knight. As a nod to that Jedi tradition, this book offers a journey for culinary Padawans who want to learn more about the kitchen. Each trial features a full meal, so that each section is its own complete story. Starting out with the simplest no-cook recipes in the first trial, each section escalates in difficulty, so that Padawans can level up to using the oven and stove, and eventually feel confident in making a whole meal.
There’s no harm in staying in the lower levels of the trials. Taking time to hone skills is the best way to become a Jedi master in the kitchen. If you make a mistake, don’t worry. Understanding that these stumbles sometimes happen is all a part of the cooking experience.
Most of all, these recipes are for families to learn together. Parents should supervise the use of knives and heat for safety purposes and act as guides at all times to help along the way. It’s all a part of the process of learning and feeling comfortable in the kitchen.
Let the Star Wars universe guide you and take you on a cooking adventure. Have fun, be creative, make mistakes, and most importantly, be proud of creating something you can share with family and friends. Enjoy your time in the kitchen, and may the Force be with you.
