About this ebook

"Just as Mary and her children were about to begin their evening meal, they were startled by a series of bone jarring bangs on their front door. Who could it be this late in the evening? It couldn't be Joseph, Mary thought, returning from his trip to buy the land they had been saving for. Suddenly, Mary heard the voice of a Roman officer from the other side of the door who was yelling out obscenities and threats that made Mary and her family even more frightened. Mary decided to leave her family seated at the table and open the door. However, she was intercepted by her last remaining son Y'shua, who went to open the door instead. When he opened it, his heart nearly jumped out of his chest! Along with a dozen soldiers, Y'shua came face-to-face with one of the most blood-thirsty, murderous Roman commanders known. None other than Lepitous Guias Arrelious standing there with his sword drawn."

Welcome to Mary's world. Up close and very personal. The drama unfolding that you have just read takes place in a place and time where Roman rule, or rather brutal occupation, was a major cause of injury, and frequent death among the Jewish population then. Add to this cauldron of simmering resentments, strife, daily violence, death, destruction, starvation, disease, over-taxation, and more, and you immediately understand why Roman rule had to be broken. Where we also come to understand why Mary was chosen to be the instrument to break the imperial Roman yoke of oppression. But how she destroys her enemies will leave you breathlessly stunned for all time. You will never again look at Mother Mary the same ever again. Get your copy of Mother Trucking Mary now and prepare for the adventure ride of your life.

Mother Trucking Mary Vol. I - Reverend Warumbe

    CHAPTER ONE

    IN THE BEGINNING

    ––––––––

It’s Summertime in Jerusalem. A Palestinian city during the first century. Scorching heat and blistering gusts rasp razor-sharp against the skin. Here, the inhabitants have been pounded into submission by the brutal force of Roman military occupation. The results are that eyes and heads are kept lowered. Mind and body as well have been taken hostage by the ravages of daily starvation. Both the physical and spiritual kind. Brought on by Roman measures and tactics put in place to ensure everyone is kept in a state of near comatose. Where one may go for days without a meal, nor water. While delivering up the literal first fruits of fields and herds. Called tribute, these "taxes'' are nothing more than thinly disguised confiscations of property. Carried out by ruthless, often violent Roman soldiers. Who readily dispense their hair-triggered hostilities and murders upon the villagers without warning nor slightest provocation. Where no corner, nor crack, nor crevas is exempt from Roman extortion.

It is in this sweltering and volatile setting we discover Mary inside the family's threshing barn winnowing grain. She has been up since the break of dawn hard at chores. Shekinah, the newest baby, age three, is happily amusing herself jumping off bales of straw, tossing tiny fists full of grain into the air with peels of gleeful laughter. Then turns to wreak havoc on the gaggle of hens who make the mistake of wandering into the winnowing barn. Yoseph is out of town seeking to purchase land that has just become available. If the purchase goes through it will finally afford them the chance to become landowners. Thus liberating them from indentured servitude. Mary, for now, has but a minuscule amount of help from her last remaining son Y’shua, age 19. Who of course has also been up before dawn harvesting crops, delivering grain to Mary in the winnowing barn, tending to the flocks, and making repairs to whatever needed them. The work was so much harder to accomplish without the others Mary often lamented. Her eldest stepchildren, Yehudia 30, Nimrod 27, and Amandi 22 have already left to start families of their own. To say the least, work on the farm has always been challenging. Even under the best circumstances. Understandably, with almost everyone gone the work began to feel crushingly difficult to keep up with. Adding to the strain is the fact that soon, Yeshua too would leave home to take up his cross as a wandering ascetic Jewish Rabbi.

Just the thought of her last son departing causes Mary to become lost in her winnowing activities. She often envisions Yeshua leaving home in starkly vivid detail. Where she sees herself giving Y’shua cheeks full of kisses along with the prayers of blessing his departure deserves. Their goodbye is a tearful, rueful, bittersweet requiem. Y’shua parcels out hugs and kisses to Mary and his baby sister. Yoseph all the while stands afar in silence. Scornful disappointment frames his scolding eyes. Then comes Yoseph's ritualistic turning of the back on his son. Which needed no words of explanation.

With that, Y’shua leaves the homestead and walks off into the shimmering mirage of the surrounding desert. His image wavering, elongating, and vibrating through the reflected heat waves like a figure caught in between suspended worlds. It
