A NOTE ABOUT THE eBOOK VERSION
There are charts and drawings in this book which have been included to help better understand they system of reading the Tarot described in this book. The most important images are still included in the digital version as well. However, due to the limited nature of which eReaders can combine text and images the smaller illustations that go with each card had to be sacrified in the digital version to provide for a smoother reading experience.
Thank you...
First of all to YOU!
For reading this book and being brave enough, curious enough, and enough enough to pick up a deck of cards and look through the mirror that is your mind.
To Charlie,
Thank you for being my friend when no one else would and for introducing me to the magical and spiritual world of the Tarot. Thank you for all the laughs, and for teaching me how to coo like a pigeon. I love you!
To Lynx,
For being my backyard savior in one of the darkest times of my life. Thank you for the endless conversations about the cards, for encouraging me to dig deep, for helping me find answers, and for being the first to read this book.
To Brother,
Thank you for buying me my first Tarot deck out of the blue. Thank you for passing on the magic and changing my life. Thank you for being my best friend. I love you, whatever that means.
To Mom,
For birthing me and encouraging me no matter which road I go down.
If you want to find the secrets of the Universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration.
– Nikola Tesla
Preface
If you take nothing from this book just know this...
There is a rhythm to life,
a
rhythm
that can be felt
and
once found
will give you
everything
except
itself.
It can never be
harnessed,
never mastered,
nor possessed.
Only brought
to awareness
within every fiber
of
your
being.
The Tarot is a reflection of this rhythm. In this book, you won’t find a single description of the famous images of the Tarot. Trust me, they’re not needed. The following books and their authors helped me to discover not only the Tarot, but that all we need to know exists inside of us already:
Modern Tarot by Michelle Tea
Kitchen Table Tarot by Melissa Cynova
78 Degrees of Wisdom by Rachel Polak
The Way of Tarot by Alejandro Jodorowsky
&
The Labyrinthos App by Tina Gong
I’ve learned to see the Tarot differently than most. Even from the inspiring people listed above. When I first began reading, some of the images in the Tarot scared me so bad I would be sent into a near panic attack. Now when I read, I hardly look at the cards. I focus instead on my understanding of how a few key energies play out in the world.
Reading the Tarot this way has opened up a whole new way for me to interpret the cards and find meanings as unique as this moment. It is my belief that you can read Tarot like this too, and I want to teach you how. I promise, it’s easier than you think!
History of the Tarot
Each writer of the Tarot claims they know the secret history of the cards and where they came from. Be it France, the tombs of Egypt, or, hell, even aliens. The truth is, no one really knows how or why they’ve ended up on this planet, yet here they are.
The one thing everyone seems to agree on is that the Tarot was once a card game, and that’s because it was! Unfortunately, even if, like me, you’re a giant Tarot nerd, this game is about as normal as Go-Fish. Yet, one look at a Tarot deck will tell you these cards are anything but normal.
History has it that these 78 cards were played as a game for centuries and then one day, out of the blue, started to be used for divination and fortune telling. The thing is, divination, fortune telling, witchcraft and the like were illegal for a very long time and so were done in secret. And where’s the best place to keep a secret? Well in plain sight, of course! So yes, the Tarot was a game to onlookers, but to those playing it was something entirely different!
