About this ebook

This is a true crime and corruption story. I was born in California. My father killed someone and went to jail, so my little sister Charlotte and I were adopted by a wealthy aunt and uncle in Fort Worth, Texas. My father beat his case in court by self-defense and joined us in Texas, but we were still adopted. We went to the best schools, wore the best clothes, and took music and dancing lessons. We had the best home any child could have with all the opportunities in the world. As teens, my sister and I worked in one of our adoptive father’s office. However, I grew rebellious and became a stripper and eventually got with gangsters and became one myself. I was married to three crime bosses and became one myself as they did prison time. Eventually, I got a fifty-year prison sentence by crooked cops who murdered a young man after robbing his parents of $3 million in jewels. There was a cover-up, and they are yet to be arrested for it. My prayer is to see them pay for that murder. There's no statue of limitation on murder.

    CHAPTER 1

Gunfire blazed the skies above the Cortez Lounge on the corners of Haschall and Munger Streets. In Dallas, Texas. When the smoke cleared Jose Cortez lie dead in the doorway of his own club, with seven bullets in him. The last thing he heard was the sound of fading footsteps as they ran further and further away from him. The club’s neon sigh flashed on and off above the club’s entrance and now above Jose’s head like a neon gravestone telling the word who lie dead in the street.

You could see a crowd gathered and were talking about Jose in a favorable manner. O’l lady Perez would have frozen to death with her kids last winter if Jose hadn’t sent someone around to pay her bills said an elder man talking to other by standard, the crowd was visibly sorry to hear Jose had been shot. I can’t believe it an elder lady said with tears in her eyes. He was really good to our family when my Rico died she said.

News of the assignation reached every worldwide cartel of whom Jose did business with. Emergency meeting took place in the wee hours of the morning after the assignation. Cartels discussed a probable war and pondered how it would affect the industry as a whole. The next morning’s newspaper’s headlines belong to Jose Cortes. A law enforcement declared the city in the midst of a heroin war following the assignation of Jose Corte. The war and Jose’s death occupied the front page. The first three pages were about Jose and the heroin war.

    Before the assassination:

I was upstairs in our condo reading a book. It was about 11:30 pm and my man Rob was downstairs playing poker with some white and Mexican gangsters. In my flowing gown I went downstairs and passed the door to the den where the game was taking place. I heard a few Hello’s and returned them and kept going to the kitchen. I opened the fridge door to look for the out-of-season strawberries Rob ordered for me. I can still feel the cold of the fridge on my face .Rita once told me if you ever need me late at night I’ll always be at the club at midnight because Jose and I go to the club at that time to collect the club’s profits. Rita continued: We are actively in a war and I am worried. Rita said. But you have enough power to win this war. I said. You have the numbers, you outweigh them in every way. I told her. Shoot I wish I had the power you have. "You got them gangster white boys and the Mexicans in love with you. You can make them do anything you want. I laughed at her.

My mind came back to the present. There I was in my garage I couldn’t get the car out without being noticed. So I grabbed some change from the kitchen drawer grabbed my full length mink coat, threw it over my gown and sneaked out the back door. Half a block away there was a pay phone. I ran to it as fast as I could. At Rita’s house the ring of her phone startled her to a straight up position, Hello The man’s voice on the phone said Do business with us or this is just the beginning Then the phone went dead, By that time I had just reached the pay phone. It rang only once and she answered. I let out a sigh of relief she was there. I remember her telling me if I ever needed her she would always be at their club at midnight because that’s when they picked up the receipts. That’s how I knew where they plan to kill Jose, when they said it will be all over with at midnight. Oh. You are there thank God. I looked at my watch and it was 2 minutes after midnight. Rita I think they just killed Jose at the club I told her What! Where are you? I’ll come get you she said . I’m at the payphone that is on your way to the club. To save time Rita didn’t tell me about the phone call and I didn’t tell her about the conversation I had overhead yet. I’m at the payphone at Berry and Bent Street on the way to the club. Wait right there, I’ll pick you up". She told me.

When we got to the club we were told the ambulance had already left with Jose. As we rode to the hospital she told me her cousin (my bodyguard/baby sitter} will be in trouble with Rob when he learns you are with me. Rita said. I told her not to worry about it. That I was steering this ship. Still Rob didn’t know I was gone. More importantly he wasn’t aware I even knew Rita much less was her friend.

When we got to the hospital there were at least 30 men there. They belong to Rita’s and Jose’s organization. Rita had her own organization before she married her husband Jose. However Jose had a large organization of his own. So when they married they became the strongest and largest heroin organization with the most territory. Where the Mexican gangsters were concerned they stayed in their own territory. The white and Mexican gangsters respected one another’s rules. Now Rita and Jose controlled the Mexican trade. They were the heads of the organization. They had power other up-coming dope dealers didn’t have…This caused a lot of animosity among the up-coming hope-to-be dealers. They had been before by smaller hope-to-be dealers but it was always a short war and Rita and Jose always won.

There were also many detective and police officers there in the emergency room as well, watching and taking names, they were also all over the parking lot taking down license plates. Most police officers had heard of Rita but never seen her. But now there they were at the hospital watching everyone. The doctor came out as we were walking in and Rita Walked up to him with me by her side. I’m sorry Mrs. Cortez we have done everything we could but it just wasn’t enough. Everyone was angry and looking to Rita for the war go-ahead sign. Everyone was anxious to go to war and law enforcement knew it. I ask Rita Do you really trust me? Yes she replied. Then send everyone home. She turned to the crowd and said quite loud GO HOME this clearly angered most of the men. One yelled What about Jose Rita whirled on him and said Can you bring him back? He said nothing. Several men spoke to Rita telling her whatever she wanted to do like change her mind just call them. Several men told her they were READY.

I told Rita to take me home and I would be at her house later. She ask What about Rob? I replied. I will do as I want. Rita replied Yeah according to the book you can What book I ask. Oh you didn’t know. Well the gangsters made rules where you are concerned . What I ask What are they? Well they decided they enjoy the money they make together and didn’t want anything to come between them and making money, So it is up to you who and when and how long you want to be with that Person and none of the other men can interfere, It is all up to you. Shocked I replied Wow thanks for letting me know all this.

Rita dropped me off at home about 1: AM. I went inside and met a very angry and worried Rob. I shushed him and told him I was there only to shower and put some clothes on and pack my bags. Then I was leaving to stay with Rita’. You can’t do that LaDawn he told me. Oh yes I can. Check the rule book. Rob’s face turned a deep red How’d you know about that He ask. Never mind that. Give me my car keys. Rita is my friend and when they kill her. Well they will kill me too. So what are you going to do about it? You can’t stop me from doing anything , I told him. By then I had a few things and my make up all packed. I picked them up and Rob grabbed them but I grabbed them back. He grabbed them again. This may be the last time you see me alive. And you want this to be our last memory? "Your business friends might kill me. I glared at him until he loosened the grip on my bags.

I went to all the clubs my gangsters frequented. I danced with them all telling them I was staying with Rita, You have to get away from her she has a price on her head One told me. "Well they will have to get us both. She is my friend and I want to protect her.

‘I was just told her and her o’l man was in a war with another organization I don’t know much more than that and something about one trying to steal the other’s territory. Who has the contract on them? One ask. I don’t know but Rob knows, he does business with them I Danced with about four of them telling them I wanted to dance with them because it may be the last time I would dance with them. I was good friends with Rita and she was in a war and I will be at her side. This caused a bit of upset with my men. They gathered in a group and blocked me in, telling me they were worried about me and they
