I dedicate this book to many people. First, I dedicate it to God, who gave
me the things I needed to make this book. I dedicate it to Mr. Mike, my
year six teacher; to my friends, especially Michelle Obelle, my classmate;
and to Magdalene Sunday. I dedicate it to my friend Ifueko and to Lydia
Boylan, another close friend. I thank my parents, Azubuike and Chigozie
Okoye, for providing me with the encouragement to finish this book.
Chapter 1
H enry, Rosabelle, Hugo, and Alexandra were in the same room, quite tired and bored. One would think that as the children of people who lived in the magical world, they would have something to do. Elena and Jayden Mystica, their parents, were very kind—and the bravest people their children knew.
Henry was the first quadruplet. Because his family came from Wonderland, he came from Wonderland too. He had black hair with dark brown eyes, exactly like his father. The mischief, the sneakiness, the cunning—these were things he enjoyed, though his mother did not.
Rosabelle had been born thirty seconds after Henry. She had blue curly hair down to her hips, and she was eleven years old, soon to start high school. By the time she is a bit older, it would be down to her feet. She had bright blue eyes that could turn very cold once you made one wrong movement. She was smart, sharp, and very mature for her age. Yes, that was Rosabelle, all right.
Hugo was very hard to explain, coming twenty seconds after Rosabelle. He had blue hair and bright blue eyes as well. Hugo usually kept to himself and was a rather shy person, but he came out of his shell when something that intrigued him came near. He was usually nice, harmless, and merciful, but if something that concerned him appeared, his tongue could be nearly as cutting as Rosabelle’s. He had talent that could not be denied, but no one seemed to know what that talent was because he kept to himself so much.
Alexandra, unable to keep her patience, had entered the world exactly five seconds after Hugo. Alex was a true tomboy, competitive, happy, and nearly as mischievous as Henry. She had Black hair to her hips, but unlike Rosabelle’s, her hair seemed to be refusing to grow unless her body did. No matter what, her hair would always be at her hips. She was bouncy, fun, and not afraid to give her own opinion. Sometimes she didn’t have to speak but gave a memorable look with her dark brown eyes, and one would understand immediately. She was a very fast girl and often used this skill to get away from shopping. Mum had to keep sending Henry, who was slightly faster than she was, to find her when she went missing. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to be a girl—it was just that some things about being a girl repelled her.
Their father, Jayden, came from Autumn Wonderland. Their mother, Elena, came from Winter Wonderland, and the quads were from Aunter Wonderland, a word used as a combination of Winter and Autumn.
I am so bored,
Henry said yet again.
You’ve said that about …
Rosabelle counted with her fingers, muttering under her breath. Thirty-two times now.
Is there nothing we can do?
Alex asked, dangling upside down on the top bunk bed.
Let’s look around, if you’re so bored,
Rosabelle said. We’ve just got to be creative, like Dad.
Henry climbed up to see Hugo. Hey, Hugo, what are you reading?
Nothing!
Hugo immediately shut the gigantic book and shoved it under his covers, looking rather uncomfortable.
Don’t be silly, Hugo.
Rosabelle got up from her bed. It’s good to read, no matter what Henry says. Now, what were you reading?
Hugo mumbled something they didn’t catch.
All right, noted. Either cat’s got your tongue, or you need mental help, and fast,
Henry said.
Be nice for once,
Rosabelle hissed, hitting him with a well-aimed slap on the face.
What did I do?
That’s it, I want to see that book,
Alex said. And before long, she had leapt off her top bunk and onto Hugo’s. She dangled dangerously off the bars of his bed.
Get off my bed!
Hugo was truly scared.
No!
Alex shouted back. Not until I see that book!
She swung onto the bed itself and attempted to snatch the book.
Hugo kicked her away. Help me!
he yelped. She’s attacking me!
Alexandra certainly was attacking
