    Dedications

This book is dedicated to change. To those that have made the attempts to change and have failed but have never given up the struggle. Prayerfully this book will give you something to re-ignite the fires to have you keep moving.

This book is especially dedicated to the following people who in one way or the other facilitated me to change.

To my mother, who operated from the level of her understanding but always encouraged me to do more than she did.

To my brother, my friend André F. Johnson Sr. who, had this book come out sooner would have been proud.

My children who have seen me at my worst and my best in my life and have found their hearts still open to me.

Especially my wife, LaToya, who connected to me when I had nothing to offer but potential and who has trusted her life to me. It is my responsibility to ensure you win in this life!

    Prologue

So here we are. You are probably sitting with this book in your hand like I would be wondering what could possibly be different in your life. I mean, your life is decent, you’re married to a decent partner, you’ve got a job that you like with people that you can tolerate decently (most of them), you are following some of your life’s passions and you’ve finally begun to see your head above water financially. So why are you still feeling lost? You can’t seem to shake the perception that more is on the horizon however the sun never rises, and now here you are left in this twilight of existence halfway between a brand-new glorious day and the diffuseness that you have come out of to accomplish the things that you have been purposed for.

You feel like it is disingenuous to complain about this life that you have strived to attain…BUT the danger of your current situation is that there is a word, that word that always seems to trip you up. BUT.

My job is great because it pays the bills I have now BUT it is not the career that I went to school for or what I want to do with the rest of my life. My current freedom in life is good BUT all my Sista-friends, buddies and bruhs are married and moving on with the dreams we talked about growing up. They’re raising families and going on vacations TOGETHER and there are some nights that my singleness is getting old, and I am realizing that so am I. For some of you, you are saying to yourself that I am married BUT my marriage is not all I thought it, or I or they were going to be. The connection if there but the affection is lacking, I mean, the fire is there but it seems to be nothing more than a smoldering cinder. Or I am following my passion for _____________ (you fill in the blanks), BUT I am still not truly fulfilled in my spirit. I feel lack and I thought I was supposed to be happy doing, being, living and loving...

If this even remotely sounds like you then you are in the right place!

This book will speak to you because it spoke to me first. I was in the position to where that word BUT came between me and the life that I know that God has truly designed for me. I would’ve excelled in school BUT I was a poor kid from the Southside of Syracuse and unless we did sports or had some money there was no way to truly excel and exceed in the area I was in. Never mind the fact that education was free for my generation, and I was raised by a generation that fought and died securing said educational freedom because my BUT was always in the way.

I would have excelled at sports (since that seem like a way out) BUT I had just started playing football and my teammates had been playing since pop warner days so I placed my own limitations in the way of greatness that could have come from being in a great high school that produced so many phenomenal athletes both into colleges and the NFL. I did not do it because my BUT was always in the way.

Throughout my existence I lived with a series of regrets from a life never lived remaining in the shadows or what I could have been BUT. BUT. BUT. I grew into adulthood and faltered at manhood because I wanted to be great as a father BUT not knowing and having real relationship with my father became my excuse. I want to lead BUT, I want to serve BUT.

Do you see a pattern here? Does it resemble anything you may have dealt with? The problem becomes
